In this series entitled Surreal-ity , photographer Kylie Woon brings those mind-bending stories and dreamy scenes to life. Conveying all kinds of dramatic emotions, including loss, fear, anger, and restlessness, Woon creates self-portraits where she floats, flips, and flies across each frame in seemingly impossible arrangements. The artist says her life has always flip-flopped between being obsessed with the small things in life versus being able to see the bigger, grander picture.

Groundbreaking Tower in Singapore is Draped in Greenery

http://mattovermatter.com/2012/06/groundbreaking-tower-in-singapore-is-draped-in-greenery/ WOHA Architects are completely changing how skyscrapers are built with their Park Royal Tower in Singapore, which will feature twice as much greenery as the nearby Hong Lim Park. The high-end office and hotel tower features a podium absolutely overrun with vertical gardens , contoured green pathways, water features, and leafy terraces. When it is completed later this year, this groundbreaking project will boast a whopping 15,000 square meters of green space! Park Royal’s leafy podium on Pickering is designed to be a vertical extension of the Hong Lim Park right across the way and at 15,000 square meters of natural features, is twice as large! The contoured facade is planted with shade trees, palms, overhanging creepers and a variety of other plant species that not only disguise the above ground parking lot but also scrub the air clean of any emissions produced there. This isn’t a skyscraper.

Mind the Gap: Different Kinds of Toughness - Education

http://www.good.is/posts/mind-the-gap-different-kinds-of-toughness An inner-city schoolteacher questions the fortitude of his supposedly toughest students. Last week, my students entered our classroom and began work on the Do Now assignment that kicks off each class. Yet one student—we'll call him Elijah—walked in late, went straight to the windows and propped one open. I asked Elijah to close the window.

Who came up with the idea that we are supposed to drink orange juice at breakfast? And why, if oatmeal is so good for us, do we eat that only in the morning as well?
In his wonderful book Musicophilia, neurologist Oliver Sacks describes Clive Wearing, a musician and musicologist whose memory was erased almost entirely after a severe brain infection. P ost-trauma, Clive’s short-term memory lasted only a matter of seconds. Sacks writes, “He remembers almost nothing unless he is actually doing it, then it may come to him.”

The Art of Momentum: Why Your Ideas Need Speed

“Creativity” isn’t the first word you’d associate with the average business presentation. The phrase “Death by PowerPoint” has been a cliché for years, but sadly the same clichés are being perpetuated day in day out – slides “designed” using hideous templates, crawling with bullet points and paragraphs in tiny fonts, which presenters then read out in a monotone (turning their backs to the audience), using interchangeable meaningless corporate jargon. B ut there is an alternative – and you hold the keys to it.Now, you may not consider yourself a natural presenter. Maybe, like many creatives, you are slightly shy by nature, at your most comfortable when seated at your desk or alone in the studio with your work.

How to Create a Captivating Presentation

We all have lousy habits. Things we’d like to do, or know we should, but just don’t seem to happen: exercise, diet, productivity or flossing longer than a week after the visit to the dentist. I n that sense, I’m like most people – still a work in progress. But, unlike most people, I’ve had on ongoing obsession with figuring out how to fix those lousy habits.
