De retour de son périple à travers les Philippines, les îles de Cebu et Bohol, Hong Kong et Singapour, il nous gratifie d’un clip sublime, intitulé « Interrupt », tout en slow-motion où la musique guide l’image. Que l’action se déroule sur une île paradisiaque ou au coin d’une rue animée, l’harmonie entre la musique et les prises de vues fait de cette vidéo un régal. In response, the Hungarian artist and photographer captures densely populated urban areas at extremely high speeds — then slows each moment down so you can experience every breath and blink. The result: hypnotic videos that reveal the hidden depths of everyday experiences. One conceptual series, Stainless, turns a mundane subway commute into a meditation on mortality and human perception. In Stainless, Magyar creates both videos and still photographs, the latter using a line-scan camera (the same kind of camera used in a scanner) to turn a speeding train into “a frozen image of impossible clarity and stillness, a reality imperceptible to both passengers speeding into the station and bystanders waiting to board,” writes Joshua Hammer in Matter.

Ed è così anche per Trace, il progetto animato in stop motion del duo Kijek/Adamski (e co-prodotto da Strange Beasts e Passion Paris) che è attualmente in mostra a La Gaîté Lyrique e che misura 20 metri. Progettato come parte della mostra di animazione della Motion Factory, Tricks of the Animation Trade, il loop di Trace è composto da 17 mila frame e mostra due silhouette che giocano a tennis.
Come succede con molte opere, una seria documentazione del lavoro è il miglior dietro le quinte possibile. Qui sotto ci immergiamo nel processo che va da fotografie su green screen a figure tagliate a laser e infine allo stop motion: Przemyslaw Adamski (a sinistra) e Katarzyna Kijek (a destra) vicino alla loro opera di 20 metri. Google Street View è una invenzione davvero fenomenale, una pietra miliare nella storia del web, che con la tecnologia “Hyperlapse” aggiunge acquista un altro tassello nella comprensione delle reali possibilità offerte da questo tipo di invenzione.
La visualizzazione di qualsiasi strada del mondo con il computer o lo smartphone è una possibilità che solo 10 anni fa sarebbe stata inimmaginabile dalla maggior parte delle persone. I prodotti studiati da Google per esplorare il mondo sono ormai differenti, ed è possibile visitare musei, esplorare fondali marini o fare una passeggiata sugli Champs Elysee comodamente seduti al pc. Questa nuova tecnologia sviluppata dall’agenzia canadese Teehan + Lax consente di esplorare le strade fotografate dalle telecamere di Street View in modo ancora più veloce ed immediato, collegando due punti e aspettando che il sistema restituisca un video finito del percorso scelto.
