Being integrated with other services such as Gmail, Drive and Google Docs, Classroom provides teachers with an intuitive platform preeminently geared towards enhancing the assignment flow between teachers and students. Stavolta vestiamo i panni del docente, per creare e configurare una classe. Anzitutto dobbiamo fare login con il nostro account Google Apps for Education e poi collegarci all’indirizzo classroom.google.com. Per creare una classe basta cliccare sul “+” che si trova in alto a destra, accanto al nostro indirizzo email: Qui troviamo subito una piccola incongruenza: nella guida ufficiale e in altre parti nel sito si parla di classe, ma questo comando è stato tradotto con “Crea lezione“. Ciò che stiamo creando, in realtà, è più propriamente un corso, cioè un modulo didattico indirizzato a un gruppo di studenti, con un proprio spazio di lavoro virtuale. Per ora si può scegliere uno dei 32 temi messi a disposizione da Google, non personalizzabili.

Le scuole che hanno adottato le Google Apps hanno fra le mani finalmente uno strumento pensato apposta per gestire la didattica. Sono appena rientrato dalle vacanze e ho deciso di iniziare subito a provare Classroom, raccontando qui, un po’ alla volta, le mie scoperte. Partiamo dall’attivazione. Un messaggio email ha ricordato a me e tutti gli altri amministratori di andare a verificare che la nuova app fosse attivata per gli utenti. Io, ad esempio, avevo scelto di non mettere automaticamente a disposizione di tutti i nuovi servizi, ma di decidere caso per caso se e quando attivarli. Come si entra in Classroom? Ovviamente l’amministratore può controllare e filtrare le richieste di accesso, direttamente dalla pagina dell’app nella console di amministrazione.

Classroom è progettato per aiutare i docenti a creare e raccogliere i compiti senza ricorrere a supporti cartacei e include funzionalità che fanno risparmiare tempo, come la possibilità di creare una copia automatica di un documento Google per ogni studente. Inoltre crea cartelle di Drive per ciascun compito e studente, in modo che tutti siano organizzati. Gli studenti possono monitorare le scadenze dalla pagina Compiti e iniziare a lavorare con un solo clic. I docenti possono vedere rapidamente chi ha svolto i compiti e chi no, fornire feedback in tempo reale e assegnare voti direttamente in Classroom.
