Understanding The Difference Between Type And Lettering. Meanwhile... in Art - Learn about Art, Sell Your Art, Buy Artwork, Learn about Famous Artists - Learn how to Sell your Art, Art Tips, Art News, Buy Art from Undiscovered Artists and more... It doesn’t take a professional Art Director, Curator or Critic to realize that the contemporary Art World has become quite the joke to everyday citizens. It only takes an afternoon at a reputable museum before you ask yourself “where’s the Rembrandt’s or Michelangelo’s or Picasso’s or Brancusi’s of today?” It seems that the fearful notion of “there’s nothing new under the sun” has left too many contemporary artists struggling to come up with something ground breaking and of value, so instead we continue to see something new and cutting edge for the sake of something new and cutting edge.

Many young artists forget that the titans of art history broke boundaries because they wanted to create something great, something of artistic value, something that others hadn’t even imagined possible. What ground breaking artwork is being created today that reminds us of what we live, love and die for? ZIG POSTERMAN. Guide to Choosing a Felt Tip Marker Pen.

Ink Quality Most of our marker pens are pigment or water-based, but we also carry some alcohol (permanent) and oil-based inks. Oil and alcohol-based inks tend to bleed more through paper, since they're meant to be used on other media, such as glossy paper, plastic, metal, or glass. The Pigma ink in the Sakura Micron pens offers a permanent, acid-free ink that is of archival quality, so you can enjoy your work for a long time. Bleedthrough Since markers cover a greater area and are disposed to dispensing more ink than other kinds of pens, bleedthrough is a legitimate concern especially when you're using the marker pen for writing. Calligraphy Pen Basics. There are two types of pens you can choose from: the traditional dip pen, or a regular cartridge-filled pen. Which you choose boils down to personal preference. Using a dip pen allows for more freedom in choosing nibs, inks, and even holders, though they tend to be messy and more temperamental.

When choosing holders, you can use straight holders that act as regular pens, or oblique holders, which some calligraphers prefer for more versatility in writing angles. Many left-handed calligraphers also use oblique holders to hold the pen more naturally without disturbing their work. Dip pen. Cartridge-filled pen. On the other hand, using a cartridge-filled pen is much cleaner and more convenient especially if you don't want to lug a bunch of tools around. Pilot Parallel Calligraphy Pen - 3.8 mm Nib Width. My 6th JetPens Review! It's Pilfered From My 5th JetPens Review! Everyone here just seems to love these Pilot Parallel Pens. Well I must admit, I do too!

These pens are, FREAKING AWESOME! Now don't get upset JetPens, but these are so much more responsive than the Lamy Joy Calligraphy pens or Safari Italic nibs. Now there is one little thing, these pens are the wettest writers that I've ever used. Now for those of you who haven't read my previous 5 reviews, of 5 of the best products worth checking out on JetPens (You gotta search them out for yourself), I won't hold you in suspense when it comes to my choice of color to put in this pen, BLACK. Now it also comes on good authority, from Lily of JetPens, that for those of us who write through ink faster than we can fill our pens, and prefer even more colors than cartridges alone will allow, that there are 2 other converters available for this pen, the Pilot CON-20 and CON-50.

Today, type designer Eben Sorkin tells us about the subtle yet powerful influence of typographic voice and gauges how tuned in you are with an actual test!

If you’re excited about using type, I would bet that a large part of your excitement comes from the voice of type. By ‘voice’ I mean the feeling found in within it — the personality and attitude we recognize in type and see exuding from it. However when it comes to choosing fonts, we can sometimes feel overwhelmed and begin to doubt ourselves. So I’d like to offer you some advice that will boost your confidence and help you to have more fun while being more effective and creative in your choices. Why voice matters The voice of a typeface can influence behavior. When the type and the tone of the text don’t match it can impede a reader. And it doesn’t just affect how we feel.
