Dubious Math in Infinite Jest Let me say, first of all, that I am a huge fan of David Foster Wallace in general and Infinite Jest in particular. On my first reading of IJ , I noticed a few mathematical errors but thought little of them. All through my years in school, from prep school in Manila to a Comp Sci degree at UW-Madison, I was taught and told to memorize many different formulas and solutions. Math, science, economics, programming, etc. all followed a similar trend. We were taught formulas and theories in lecture, and then were expected to apply these new learnings to the problems that we faced in projects and tests.

Google announced today about the launch of beta version of its Q&A service (used to be Google Answers, see my previous post Google says adieu to Google Answers from November last year). Today we are launching the beta version of “Questions and Answers”. The new Google service, where you can ask a difficult question on the topic interesting to you, get an answer from other users, and can earn points, responding to other people’s questions.
