Nun Other Than a Franciscan Sister. Green Patches. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God whose name was John. Mike F of the Mercy Blog got there before me in reflecting on today's gospel. Jesus is the living Word, and all words are somehow almost sacramental as a result. As I've written elsewhere this morning saw me shatteringly tired in church yet as so often in the past, this timeless prologue to John's gospel shone out for me in the mists of lethargy and confusion.

It speaks of their timelessness and power that these verses are amongst the few I know almost by heart and have been for as long as I can remember. The light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it... Growing Greenpatches. A Friar's Life. Justice, Peace, and Integrity of Creation St. Clare Region, OFS. Franciscan Virtues, Coversion, Simplicity, Littleness, Brotherhood, Poverty, Surrender, Service. Many people know the story of Saint Francis of Assisi. They are awed by the tale of a flamboyant young merchant giving up a secure and profitable living to live in wandering poverty with no permanent abode, caring for lepers, encouraging others to penance, and begging for his sustenance. They see his idyllic band of followers as enthusiastic men willing to give up everything in order to follow the poor Christ in simplicity, joy, and faith. Francis becomes the man who became so like Jesus that the Lord impressed upon his body the wounds of His Son on the cross.

So Francis, following his conversion, lived conformed to Jesus and died in surrender to Him. All of this is true about Saint Francis. Franciscans and The Environment | Third Order Of The Society of St. Francis. There are three overwhelming reasons why Tertiary Franciscans should be dynamically working to stop human beings from doing further damage to God’s created world through greed and overconsumption:1) The deep love Francis, our role model, had for all nature.2) Our central aim to live in the prosperous poverty we call “simplicity” as we try to follow Jesus in the Franciscan way.3) Our dedication to loving others. We as Franciscans should be dedicated to the protection of God’s creation simply because God loves it and Francis loved it.

There are many practical reasons for being so, but the practical reasons are secondary to the primary calling of God to be stewards of what He made. Moreover, if everyone lived in “simplicity” as we consider ideal, there would be no environmental crisis. The world could easily sustain our world population without damage to other living things if all rich people would give up their luxuries and excessive consumption. “For any journey, can I walk?
