Eden Project. The Eden Project (Cornish: Edenva) is a visitor attraction in Cornwall, England, United Kingdom. Inside the artificial biomes are plants that are collected from all around the world. The project is located in a reclaimed Kaolinite pit, located 1.25 mi (2 kilometres) from the town of St Blazey and 5 kilometres (3 mi) from the larger town of St Austell, Cornwall.[2] The complex is dominated by two huge enclosures consisting of adjoining domes that house thousands of plant species,[3] and each enclosure emulates a natural biome. The domes consist of hundreds of hexagonal and pentagonal, inflated, plastic cells supported by steel frames. The first dome emulates a tropical environment, and the second a Mediterranean environment. Design and construction[edit] The project was conceived by Tim Smit and designed by architect Nicholas Grimshaw and engineering firm Anthony Hunt and Associates (now part of Sinclair Knight Merz).

Hotel+ecologico+ucrania+5.JPG (1000×647) Go Camping, Ewok Style. For many kids, a treehouse is a time honored tradition of growing up.

Making rules as to who is allowed up in the tree perch is just one part of the fantasy land where they get to live… a land like the cartoons or movies, full of magical imaginations running wild. Even as adults, the idea of a peaceful getaway in the canopy of a lush forest is an appealing departure from the concrete that surrounds life in towns and cities. This unusual tent-like treehouse, looking a lot like something friendly Ewoks would have relaxed in during Return of the Jedi, is the perfect example of one of these magical, childlike places. Tentsile has engineered a treehouse for adults that can be strung up easily in the enchanted forest of your choosing. A combination of tent and giant hammock, the three-sided Tentsile could bring those childhood dreams right back into your adult world. Amongst a long list of other cool possibilities, the Tentsile website recommends use of the tent at festivals. Hammock Boat Concept. A Gorgeous Cabin In The Forest, Made From The Trees It Displaced.

Building an eco-friendly home in the middle of a forest sounds like a paradox: Chances are that in the process you’ll have to cut down some trees. The best solution, of course, is to use them as a source of timber. Which is exactly what Paul Morgan Architects did, using a mixture of remnant and newly harvested wood to construct this wondrous cabin in Victoria’s Central Highlands, in Australia.

The 900-square-foot Trunk House was built as a weekend getaway for a married couple with a daughter attending college. “They asked for a small forest cabin in which they could practice choral singing,” according to Paul Morgan. What they got was a round structure with large windows providing views of the lush surroundings and an overhanging roof supported by tree forks made from pieces of wood found on the forest floor joined together with straight columns to form a triangulated truss system.

Over the last 15 years, nine Maggie’s Centres have sprung up around the U.K. to support people affected by cancer. Rather than administering medical treatment, these facilities provide comforting environments for those coping emotionally and psychologically with the disease, and their unique approach is matched by their commitment to innovative architecture. The newest center on the roster is a flying-saucer-like pavilion proposed by Snøhetta that, funding withstanding, is expected to set down in Aberdeen, Scotland.

Snøhetta follows a string of starchitects who have designed Maggie’s branches, including Zaha Hadid, Richard Rogers, and Rem Koolhaas. This particular center would sit on the grassy southern edge of the Forester Hill Hospital, oriented to receive both southern and western light. But it isn’t a done deal yet.
