Un instrumento musical con una aureola mítica Los Reyes Magos me han traído un cuenco tibetano. Hacía mucho que quería tener uno. Es un instrumento musical usado en rituales budistas, por lo que no se encuentra sólo en el país del que recibe su nombre, sino también en Nepal, India, Bután, China, Japón y Corea.
Puede tocarse de varias formas, pero hay dos principales: la primera, percutiendo con la vara o baqueta de madera, lo que produce un sonido como de campana con armónicos, y la segunda forma, colocando el cuenco sobre la palma de la mano abierta y deslizando la baqueta por su borde circular, lo que crea un sonido continuo de distintos tonos. La tradición dice que se fabrican de la aleación de siete metales: oro, plata, mercurio, cobre, hierro, estaño y plomo.
