This is the question that gave birth to the bicymple. By removing the chain, the number of moving parts and overall complexity is significantly reduced. A direct-drive, freewheeling hub joins the crank arm axis with the rear-wheel axis, shortening the wheelbase and minimizing the design. More than just a stylish concept bike, the bicymple is comfortable, easy to ride, and brilliantly simple to maintain. The lightweight design and short wheelbase make for a nimble ride. The frame of the coren is made of very high tensile strength T1000 carbon fibres which are otherwise used almost solely in Formula 1 monocoques. Innovative for the bicycle sector are the avant-‐garde shape, created by UBC designer Christian Zanzotti, and the design of the frame: super-‐slim top and down tubes lend the coren a unique visual lightness.
The overall weight shows that this lightness is also a fact: 7,700 grams – more than acceptable for an urban bike. The coren is available from the end of 2012 directly from the manufacturers. Given UBC's heavy workload of motor racing projects, only a limited number of the high-‐tech bicycle will be available, either as Singlespeed, Pedelec or Fixie. The price is around €25,000 (incl.
