Addressing Teacher Bullies. Printer-friendly version When schools implement anti-bullying programs, the focus is usually centered on student-to-student bullying.

Addressing Teacher Bullies

However, students aren’t the only bullies in school. Teachers sometimes earn the label when they employ questionable disciplinary and management practices. Addressing Teacher Bullies is a presentation intended to help educators assess and reflect on their classroom management style and learn more about how inappropriate displays of teacher power can impact student learning.

Teaching Tolerance designed this presentation for teacher leaders, professional learning groups, staff development coordinators and other educators interested in engaging their colleagues around issues of teacher behavior and classroom climate. Using the presentation in a small group setting allows participants to learn from each other through discussion and collaboration. The presentation can be played directly from the Teaching Tolerance site or can be downloaded for use offline.

Sal Khan Maps Out Blended Learning. Sal Khan: So when most people think about what education is, there's actually a wide spectrum of stuff.

Sal Khan Maps Out Blended Learning

So if you imagine over here, this is kind of the most- the most rote form of education. This is, you know, your multiplication facts or dates in history or vocabulary. And then as you go in this direction you get kind of the more open-ended and creative things. So this is creativity and open-endedness. And what's happening right now is there's definitely creativity and open-endedness happening in classrooms, but I think almost every educator I talk to says that they wish they had more time for doing that type of stuff. Sal: Now what's been interesting about Khan Academy is we've been able to -- with a combination of -- obviously, we've got videos, we've got software, which are our exercises and our dashboards.

One of the things that I see happen far too often is people stressing over how they are going to create lessons around the new piece of technology they have in their classroom.

Using technology in the classroom the right way SmartBlogs

It is this approach that is causing headaches to many and giving tech tools a bad reputation in the classroom. There is a right way and a wrong way to infusing technology in education. The wrong way The absolute wrong way to deal with educational technology is to look at a tool and try to build a lesson around it. I have seen administrators tell teachers to use a specific tool in a specific lesson. The right way The right way to deal with educational technology is to not worry about it until after the lesson is planned. That’s it. Some of my best lessons were created years ago that did not involve technology in anyway. Five Ways to Improve Education through Technology. How to drive technology innovation SmartBlogs. Recently, New Milford High School in New Jersey was recognized as the November/December “School of the Month” by eSchool News for its accomplishments pertaining to the use of educational technology.

How to drive technology innovation SmartBlogs

As I look back on our journey and the path that was taken, I have been able to identify some key elements that have driven change and allowed New Milford to become a technology-rich school where potential and promise are emphasized as opposed to problems, challenges and excuses. Connectedness matters My social media journey has been well documented, and it was this journey that provided me with the knowledge, tools and ideas needed to initiate change. Knowledge is everything and it influences our decisions and opinions. Once connected through social media, I was given the knowledge I desperately needed. Vision The seeds for change will only germinate if a coherent vision is established.
