Your child may be young enough that they accidentally stumble upon inappropriate content ranging from nudity to foul language, leaving you to explain the human anatomy at a much sooner time than you had imagined. Or, perhaps the kids are at an age of curiosity or rebellion and are purposely seeking out off-limits topics online. With the growing popularity of internet access to mobile devices like the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, monitoring internet activity isn’t so easy as plopping the computer in the living room and keeping a watchful constant eye over young shoulders. The focus of this and many other blogs and websites is about learning, and rightly so, but there are also apps that will make our jobs easier too. I am talking about that catergory of apps that are designed specifically for the classroom teacher. Those apps that will assist us in the everyday little jobs that need to be done, often on the run and often while 10 other things are also happening in the room. There are plenty and I am sure as more and more teachers gain the confidence to design their own apps, there will be more suitable one to come. Over a year ago, I wrote two stories about The Best Free iPhoneography Apps: Camera Replacements and Image Editors.
Since those two stories were first posted, a lot has changed in iPhonegraphy. The iPhone is now on iOS 4.2 (soon to be iOS 4.3). Two versions of the iPhone 4 have been released and these devices have much greater resolution and a much better camera than those of a year ago. The iPod Touch 4th Generation now comes with a camera. Several of the apps originally listed are no longer available or break in the latest versions of the iOS. Currently, many free versions of the apps are try-before-you-buy versions of their commercial siblings. However, there are still some great free photo apps in the App Store. For no investment other than bandwidth and download time, you can improve your iPhone’s camera and get some impressive looking photographs.
