TYIN tegnestue Releases Downloadable Guide to Design/Build in Underprivileged Areas

If you head to their website, many of their past projects are available for download in the form of photographs, sketches, drawings, models, and more. They believe that by sharing their knowledge, they are encouraging students and young architects to learn by building. The architecture co-operative has even created the ”TYIN Architect’s Toolbox,” a downloadable guide to working on design-builds in places of need. For more information on the guide, keep reading after the break. The TYIN Architect’s Toolbox is a booklet of watercolor illustrations accompanied by quirky blurbs and quotes. The architects were commissioned by a group of 50 local landowners to create a small structure that would help define the dune landscape as a natural reserve with the hopes of bringing attention and funding to the beautiful area. The design ended up being a result of improvisation and skillful tact in designing in tandem with the construction, being able to acquire available materials while leading a large group of students to create a sizable structure in only three weeks. Cassia Coop Training Centre is a unique centre with ambitions of being better than its competitors, not only in quality, but first and foremost in ethics.

Designed and built by TYIN tegnestue Architects, a non-profit organization made up of architects and students from Trondheim’s Norwegian University of Science and Technology, the centre wishes to set a new standard in how to run a socially well functioning enterprise; local cinnamon farmers and workers will receive proper payment, a decent healthcare program and have access to schools and education. In addition, the factories of Cassia Coop will be sanitary and safe. The main idea behind the project is the classic concept of a light wooden construction on a base of heavy brick and concrete. The wooden construction gives a feeling of being within a cinnamon forest. All images © Pasi Aalto | Via: Archdaily. TYIN tegnestue. Gerb.

Heinemann SE & co is one of the worlds largest corporations in duty free retail. They have stores at most european airports with international traffic. A number of these stores include a regional area, wherein regional products can be presented in a specifically tailored atmosphere. In company with some of the most known architect offices of the world, TYIN was asked to design this regional area in the Heinemann store at Trondheim Airport. The project has two main objectives.

We began the process by searching for an old, traditional log house typical for the Trondheim-area. With this project we attempt to display our core values and our way of design, our love for simplicity in details and material choice, at the very heart of the commercial world. The conflict leaves many children orphaned, with little hope for the future. Ole Jorgen Edna had opened an orphanage in Noh Bo in 2006 and was in need of more dormitories. The orphanage sheltered 24 children, however the intention was to house around 50. The main driving force behind the Soe Ker Tie House was to provide the children with their own private space, a place that they could call home and a space for interaction and play.
