Seoul MVRDV . photos: © kyungsub shin Just before a Korean pop-song became a global success on YouTube for the first time in history, and Gangnam became world famous as the nouveau riche hangout of the South-Korean capital Seoul, MVRDV was commissioned by Woon Nam Management Ltd. to redefine a building on Gangnams chic Apgujung Road.
Even though the Chungha building was completed in the 1980’s it was already outdated in a street dominated by flagship stores. Seoul Yongsan Dream Hub corporation presented today the MVRDV designed residential development of the Yongsan Business district: two connected luxury residential high-rises. A 260 meter tall tower and a 300 meter tall tower are connected in the centre by a pixelated cloud of additional program offering amenities and outside spaces with wide views.
The towers with a total surface of 128,000m2 are expected to be completed in 2015. The two towers are positioned at the entrance of the Yongsan Dreamhub project, a master plan designed by Studio Libeskind, extending the business district of the South Korean capital Seoul. The new public library for Spijkenisse near Rotterdam is a long bookshelf spiraling up creating a mountain of books, covered by a glass shell the visibility of the books will act as beacon for accessibility of literature and information.
The 10,000m2 building will be an example of sustainable technology, MVRDV also designs a small neighbourhood adjacent to the library. STORAGE BOXES Dutch public libraries used to be accommodated in buildings looking like sports halls, schools or other socio-cultural institutes: often squat boxes of brickwork with a window here and there, and a modest recess to mark the entrance. Built in an era when libraries were regarded as unmotivated, socialist storage boxes.

They wanted to have a gallery-type circulation but were not able to fit in the units in acceptable way. The official explanation is as follows: "To still provide adequate sunlight into the surrounding buildings only 87 of the 100 units could be realized within the slab. When the project was completed, we were told, that we had realized the social housing project with the lowest building-costs in Amsterdam (applause). MVRDV peruri 88 . jakarta. An international design team made up of MVRDV of Rotterdam (overall design), The Jerde Partnership (commercial podium) of Los Angeles, and ARUP Dublin, together with developer Wijaya Karya Benhil Property, have collaborated to create Peruri 88 a new landmark icon for Jakarta. Peruri 88 will be a vertical city in one building combining Jakarta´s need for more green spaces with the need for densification.
The tower is a 400 meter tall mix use project with retail, offices, housing, a luxury hotel, four levels of parking, a wedding house, a mosque, ima x theatres and an outdoor amphitheatre. The team presented the plans to city and site owner Peruri as part of a developer’s bid competition for the prominent site at Jl. Palatehan 4 Jakarta. Peruri 88 combines Jakarta´s need for green space with Jakarta´s need for higher densities whilst respecting the typologies of the current urban fabric. MVRDV dnb bank headquarters . oslo. Oslo MVRDV . photos: © Jeroen Musch . © Jiri Havran In 2003, MVRDV, together with Norwegian firms Dark and a-lab, won the competition for the Bjørvika waterfront development and designed a dense urban master plan along Nyland Allé, the Oslo Barcode, that will be developed and realised by OSU in phases.
The international Norwegian financial institution DnB NOR decided to concentrate their twenty office locations currently dispersed over the city in the Barcode. In 2007, the master plan team was commissioned by developer OSU to design the urban concept. A new cluster of three volumes and a common basement with a 3,000m2 underground concourse, which interlinks the three buildings of the bank, was developed.
MVRDV glass farm . schijndel. In 1944 the small Brabant town of Schijndel which is the birthplace of Winy Maas suffered from Operation Market Garden bombings resulting in an oversized market square. In 1980 the then 20 year old Winy Maas urged the mayor to fill in the gap. Today Rembrand developers, the town of Schijndel and MVRDV start construction on the Glass Farm, a multifunctional building in the village square. The building with a total surface area of 1600m2 will contain shops, restaurants, offices and a wellness centre.
The exterior is printed glass with the motive of a typical local farm; 1,6 times larger than life. Construction will be completed in December 2012. IMAGE night Schijndel's market square suffered from Operation Market Garden bombings in the Second World War and has been subject to numerous enlargements and refurbishments. MVRDV AFASIA. Hongqiao Central Business District . Shanghai MVRDV begin construction of business district at Shanghai Hongqiao Airport after winning competition. Sincere Property, MVRDV and Aedas have started construction on a Central Business District at Shanghai’s mostly domestic airport Hongqiao. The 4.5ha site is located near Hongqiao Airport train station at the corner of Shenhai Express Way and Shenbin Road. The plan comprises of ten office towers, an underground shopping centre, cultural program, parking and a sunken plaza which will bring a more intimate form of urban life into an area currently dominated by large boulevards and urban expressway's.
