Box House / 1:1 arquitetura:design. Architects: 1:1 arquitetura:design Location: Brasília – Distrito Federal, Brasil Project Architects: Eduardo Sáinz Márquez, Lilian Glayna Year: 2013 Photographs: Cesar Edgard From the architect. Box house is a conceptual project that experiments with a new way to occupation of the space and form. It has born under the concept of pool house; which contains two bedrooms, a social bathroom, a small service area and a gourmet place. Worked less than 65 square meters. The volume was created as a concrete box, with enough personality, the entries of the box are marked with a rusty steel form, inside the building we have try to use a very fun mix of textures, colors and Brazilian design furniture with the firms of Marcus Ferreira, Paulo Alves, Aristeu Pires, and another big names. The owner of the house is a young professional, single and ready to begin life with a lot of style.

Mountain House / David Guerra. Architects: David Guerra Location: Condominium Arvoredo ,Nova Lima, Minas Gerais, Brazil Project team: Architect David Guerra, Architect Cori Coraci, Architect Gisella Lobato, Lucas Lage and Architect Marcelo Lacayo Project area: 745 sqm Project year: 2009 Photographs: Courtesy of David Guerra Weekend refuge for the mother, her two married sons, her daughter-in-law and her grandchildren.

It is located in a condominium with big sites, surrounded by an ecological reserve. The idea was to create a house linked to nature which works as a big deck of contemplation and sociability using natural material to make an atmosphere of snugness in a contemporary proposal. All private and social areas were developed in one single level which faces the mountains. The verandas of these premises are turned to a grassy courtyard where the swimming pool with a deck, a douche, a water mirror and a cascade is located. There was no intention to follow a fad by the choice of the furniture.

Juranda House / Apiacás Arquitetos. Architects: Apiacás Arquitetos Location: Vila Beatriz, Sao Paulo, Brazil Project Architects: Anderson Freitas, Juliana de Araujo Antunes Collaborators: Acácia Furuya, Bibiana Ferreira, Pedro Mauger Structural Engineering: Eng. Maria de Lourdes Mesquita Project Area: 150 sqm Project Year: 2007-2008 Photographs: Pregnolato & Kusuki Estúdio Fotográfico In designing our house on an urban plot with dimensions of 6 x 24m, located in Rua Juranda, Vila Beatriz, São Paulo, we were forced to establish certain criteria for the construction of a house of approximately 150 sqm.

As the terrain of the plot had an accentuated slope, the bottom of the plot being over three and a half metres below the pavement level, the building was distributed over half levels, separated by a three storey void which contains the staircase access to the floors. The idea was to make the house as transparent as possible, in a way that would establish a relationship with the external areas. Busca Vida House / André Luque. Architect: André Luque Location: Camaçari, Bahía, Brasil Built area: 445 sqm Year: 2007 Photographs: Tarso Figueira and Luis Gomes In the construction of the Busca Vida House, the constructive and environmental affinities that arose between the owner and architect, started from the earliest stages of the project.

Mainly the existing vegetation dictated the deployment of this residence. It was both the owner and the architect interest to preserve as many trees as possible, resulting in the removal of only one small tree. The design of the house, located in Camaçari, northern coast of Bahia, was laid out with contemporary lines, utilizing natural ventilation and sun light through large glass panels.

To fulfill the desire of the owner to receive friends, and at the same time not to have her privacy jeopardized, the program was distributed in two separate pavilions. Eucaliptus House / Andre Eisenlohr. Architect: Andre Eisenlohr Location: Campos do Jordão, São Paulo, Brazil Colaborator Architect: Cyssa Martins Consulting structural engineers: João Carlos R. Neto Contractor: Luciano Silva dos Santos Client: Rancho Santo Antonio Project year: 2008 Photographs: Andre Eisenlohr Located on a steeply sloping terrain, the residence is deployed parallel to contour lines, within an area of forest reserve in Campos do Jordão, Sao Paulo, and has 50m2.

Designed for a couple, the plan is simply organized, in just one floor, where the bathroom divides the bedroom from the couple’s living room, which is integrated with the kitchen. The view of the valley is facing the south side and is fully exploited by large glass panels that give access to deck. On the north side of the street the view is protected, with low windows that allow the incoming sunlight so that the heat is stored during the day in a passive manner, without compromising the privacy of the couple. Maracanã House / Terra e Tuma Arquitetos Associados. Architects: Terra e Tuma Arquitetos Associados Location: Lapa, São Paulo, Brazil Arquitetura: Terra e Tuma Arquitetos Associados Project Team: Danilo Terra, Pedro Tuma, Juliana Assali Project Area: 185.0 sqm Project Year: 2009 Photographs: Pedro Kok Construction: Rafael Alves Electrical & Hydraulic Engineerings: Minuano Engenharia Structure: AVS Landscpae: Acatu – Atelie de Cultura Ambiental e Tratamento Urbano Panel: Alexandre Mancini São Paulo. A town of the most extraordinary urban contrasts. The idea of the family residence takes on, in this location, a self-contained and very real experience. Thus, appears Maracanã house, as if it had decided to stand still in the western meanders of the metropolis. The plans that define its geometry – opaque in its dull gray materiality, transparent in its glass surfaces, vibrant in the access wall – mark the presence of a new event in the bucolic neighbourhood, where people wonder about the curious presence of this new building.

Loft Bauhaus / Ana Paula Barros. Architects: Ana Paula BarrosLocation: Brasília, DF, BrasilDesign Team: Rafael Papi, Beatriz San SalvadorProject Area: 160 sqmProject Year: 2011Photographs: Edgard Cézar School that inspired Modernism inspires Ana Paula Barros in the loft project, the environment of 160m ², honors the Brazilian architecture where you can find elements of the Bauhaus combined with the Brazilian modernism of Oscar Niemeyer and Lucio Costa. Inspired by the famous Farnsworth House by Mies Van der Rohe, the project explores four of the five points of modern architecture: open plan, pilotis, free facade and ribbon windows.

Despite the straight lines and clean architecture presented in the design, organic and natural elements like stone, iron and wood, which are a constant in the work of Ana Paula, provide warmth and cosines, essential elements for a house and, especially, to live. The project is composed by a large living room / dining room, which also works as a balcony. House In Praia Preta / Nitsche Arquitetos Associados. Architects: Nitsche Arquitetos Associados Location: Praia Preta, Sao Sebastiao, São Paulo, Brazil Floor Area: 715 sqm Photographs: Courtesy of Nitsche Arquitetos Associados The house is implanted in a strip of land between the sea and the mountains of the Serra do Mar. Both ecosystems are extremely exuberant. The mountains are covered with the native Atlantic forest (the most bio-diversified ecosystem on the planet). The beach is quite small, and scarcely occupied. The sea water is crystalline, protected by small Atlantic-Ocean islands.

A large parcel of land inside a condominium of few houses with no physical separation among them, makes the natural elements the main aspect to be considered for the building arrangement. The house is a link among the natural forces surrounding it. All floors and finishings have been removed and a new roof structure has been added, so as to augment the ceiling height. The house is a large rectangular platform with its longer sides parallel to the beach. House in Iporanga / Nitsche Arquitetos Associados. Architects: Nitsche Arquitetos Associados – Lua Nitsche, Pedro Nitsche, Renata Cupini, Suzana Barboza, Mariana Simas Location: Iporanga, Guarujá, SP, Brazil Total Area (including terraces): 554 sqm Photographs: Nelson Kon Iporanga House is located in Iporanga a condominium for summer houses on Sao Paulo’s coast, approximately 120km east form the capital.

This condo is inside a very well preserved and protected area of the original Atlantic Rainforest. The exuberance of this native forest has taken the client to demand a house that occupied the minimum as possible of the ground (lot) surface. But at the same time he wanted it to be large and comfortable, and asked for 5 suites, one for the couple, one for each of his 3 suns and one for guests, which demanded not less the 400m2 to be built. This volume creates a shadow on the slab, and we used that shadow for the social area.

The structural concept of the house was inspired by small brook bridges typical from this litoraneal area. Cube house / AR Arquitetos.
