Summer of socks « knit the hell out. This is truly my summer of socks. This is the seventh pair I have worked on for the summer, and there is an eighth on the needles right now, but that pair is super secret for the time being. I feel sort of like a sock junkie since I can’t seem to go very long without one pair on my needles. This pair will be for my brother’s girlfriend, Brenna. She already knows it’s happening, so I don’t have to be sneaky about it. The pattern is my own. Like this: Like Loading... Citron. I've been knitting like a maniac during the Olympics, and making good use of all that TV viewing and sofa time! Here's what I have to show for it: a Citron shawl. Citron is a free pattern on the Knitty.com web site.

It was perfect TV knitting - lots of mindless stocking stitch. The instructions are written for 5 repeats of the main pattern, with some extra guidelines for making it bigger, if so desired. I checked ravelry, and saw a bunch of folks had recommended 7 repeats. I really like the size that the recommended 7 repeats produced. The only other change I made was to go down a needle size to a US 5, which worked well for this lovely fine yarn.

And what is this lovely yarn you may ask. Hope you are having a good week and enjoying the Olympic Games, Sam xxx. Stipa et alpaga. Nobody Likes a Braggart. At the beginning of last school year a student came to me with the tattle that one of their friends was showing off. While I do not necessarily deem this tattle-worthy, we did have a talk about how bragging can hurt other people's feelings and might make other friends not want to play with you. I closed our discussion with the statement that "Nobody likes a braggart. " Unbeknownst to me, another teacher heard me having this conversation and word got out that I used the word braggart with my students (and yes, I did have to explain to the kids what a braggart was).

It became kind of the running joke during the year. It gets even better. This pattern is called Show-off Stranded Socks (thus the intro story). I also found the heel construction on this really interesting. This makes my third pair of socks this year. Yarn: MadelineTosh Sock in Grenadine Needles: US 1.5 (2.5mm) and US 0 (2mm) for heels and toes. Began: Officially June 23rd (restarted after ripping to cuff July 7)
