A Marriage Made For The Global, Digital Economy. At the recent SemTech Berlin conference, husband-and-wife team Michael Trevor McDonald and Kim Chandler McDonald, CTO and Executive VP, respectively, of KimmiC, led a session that discussed a marriage of a different sort: that between the Semantic Web and the user interface. The session was described as providing the audience insight into the benefits of the semantic web, given that so much of the world’s economic brain/ecosystem is tied up in the relationships between companies, consumers and suppliers – an interaction between systems and people that is a real-life ‘Matrix’ whose ubiquity is hampered by the lack of a common way of talking about things such that they can be utilized and shared simply, and in a confidential, secure, and vendor-neutral manner. Semantic Web Blog: Help us better understand this idea of The Matrix in the context described – considering the movie, is that a positive analogy and what does the Semantic Web have to do with it?

Business Utilities, Mobile, & Cloud Computing. Semantic+web. Semantic Data. Semantic Desktop. Web 3.0. Structured Dynamics. Open SEAS: A Framework to Transition to a Semantic Enterprise » Today, Structured Dynamics is pleased to release Open SEAS, its methodology for Semantic Enterprise Adoption and Solutions. At the same time, we are donating the framework to the open source MIKE2.0 Method for an Integrated Knowledge Environment project. Open SEAS provides a framework for the enterprise to establish a coherent, consistent and interoperable layer across its information assets. It is compliant with the MIKE2.0 Semantic Enterprise Solution Offering. Open SEAS has been developed for enterprises desiring to initiate or extend their involvement with semantic technologies.

It is inherently incremental, low-cost and low-risk. Donation and Relation to MIKE2.0 Concurrent with this release, Structured Dynamics is also donating the methodology and all of its related intellectual assets to the MIKE2.0 project. Last week, I began to introduce MIKE2.0 and its methodology to the readers of this blog. MIKE2.0 presently has some 800 resources across about 40 solution areas. Command Line Semantic Web with Redland | Dave Beckett – Journalb. Products - Structured Dynamics. Structured Dynamics' growing product portfolio is geared to power the semantic enterprise. It leverages existing assets with interoperable technologies and linked data.

Our products and applications enable users to discover, connect, communicate, and share knowledge in new and innovative ways. We share your vision to get information to interoperate, regardless of legacy or form. SD's flagship product is the Open Semantic Framework. OSF can integrate and manage all types of content — unstructured documents, semi-structured files, spreadsheets, and structured databases — using a variety of best-of-breed engines. Modern IT architectures are evolving to become Web-based and layered.

The basic architecture of the Open Semantic Framework pivots around the OSF Web Services; there are now nearly 30 providing a wealth of functionality. This basic architecture from user interface to engines is quite simple in design: The premise of the entire stack is based on the RDF data model. Design pattern. A design pattern in architecture and computer science is a formal way of documenting a solution to a design problem in a particular field of expertise. The idea was introduced by the architect Christopher Alexander in the field of architecture[1] and has been adapted for various other disciplines, including computer science.[2] An organized collection of design patterns that relate to a particular field is called a pattern language.

The elements of this language are entities called patterns. Each pattern describes a problem that occurs over and over again in our environment, and then describes the core of the solution to that problem, in such a way that you can use this solution a million times over, without ever doing it the same way twice. — Christopher Alexander[1] The usefulness of speaking of patterns is to have a common terminology for discussing the situations designers already see over and over.

Overview[edit] A pattern must also explain when it is applicable. See also[edit] Semantic Enterprise Composite Offering - MIKE2.0, the open sourc. From MIKE2.0 Methodology Introduction The Semantic Enterprise Solution Offering provides a layer for the enterprise to establish coherence, consistency, and interoperability across its information assets. Applicable information assets may range fully from structured to unstructured (text and document) sources.

The methodology of this Offering is: inherently incrementallayered onto existing capabilities and resourcesflexible to accommodate expansions in scope, new learning, and changes the continuum As an implementation proceeds and extends across the enterprise, there are exciting prospects to shift the locus of knowledge management and tools from vendors and the IT function to practicing knowledge workers. Real prospects exist from this Offering to overcome decades of frustration in breaking down information silos within the organization. Executive Summary These can be applied to the issues related information interoperability. See further the standalone executive overview.
