Such Pretty Things: Sugar Hearts. So, what does one do when there are three feet of snow outside, the roads are completely impassible, the cupboard is getting bare, and your bored kids are about to go crazy from watching too many back-to-back episodes of I Carly and Hannah Montana? Why, you make sugar hearts of course! The great thing about these sugar hearts is that they require only three or four ingredients that you probably already have in your pantry - sugar, water, food coloring and powdered egg whites (optional). To begin, mix two cups of granulated sugar with some food coloring of your choice. You can use liquid or powdered, but just be sure to mix it in very well. Next, mix in 4 teaspoons of water or 4 teaspoons of reconstituted powdered egg whites into your sugar.
The mixture should resemble wet sand. Now you are ready to make your sugar hearts. These need to harden before you use them. We had LOTS of time on our hands, so we made a whole bunch... My girls love to eat these just like pieces candy... Jessica. Mental_floss Blog » Talking Pictures: Love and Marriage. Talking Pictures is a spankin'-new column in which, every week or so, I'll post an array of fascinating found snapshots that have writing on them, all arranged around a particular theme. I discovered them either in swap meets or flea markets or in the vast collections of snapshot-obsessed friends -- most of whom had never bothered to turn their photos over to check whether anything interesting was written on the backs.
For me, words are what make old photos come to life. A few scribbled lines can turn a blurry black-and-white snapshot of people who seem a million miles and a million years away into an intensely personal sliver of experience that anyone can relate to. It becomes something not just to look at, but to listen to. This week it's all about love. Let's begin with flirting, which hasn't changed nearly as much, judging from the photo above, as the clothes people wear to picnics. The long, trailing question-mark says it all, I think: Little Billy is ready for takeoff -- and love. Baltimore Wedding by Lindsay MacDonald Weddings | Style Me Pretty : The Ultimate Wedding Blog. Must Have: Wedding Sweets Buffet! One of the latest and greatest “must-haves” at weddings is the candy, cookie or popcorn buffet. This trend is probably a take-off of the traditional “Sweet tables” that are commonplace at Italian and Greek weddings. But unlike traditional sweet tables, these fun buffets feature decorative vases, containers, apothecary jars, scoops, ladles, favor containers and cute signs and labels. Additionally, candy buffets often function as the favor item, rather than being just another additional dessert item. Candy and other treat buffets can include cookies, popcorn, chocolate covered pretzels or candy. You can even go retro with the candy selections or use a local favorite.
The signs are part of the fun and can label the candies/popcorn by flavor or simply with cute sayings like “Groom’s Favorite” or “Love is Sweet” or “Treat Yourself”. If you love the idea of a candy buffet but dread having to buy a million containers you should check if your florist/event planner/venue rents them out. The Game of Love. I just love hearing about couples getting engaged...don't you? Just the thought of a new marriage, a new family...and well, the wedding cake, makes me turn to mush. My cousin Meg got engaged last month...yay! Now, I have 9 younger cousins...just on one side of the family. Hearing about their engagements is always exciting, but this one was especially thrilling because I've actually gotten a chance to get to know her *now* fiance....and he is such GREAT GUY!
{ok, first...how adorable are they?!?} Let me tell you a just little about Meg & Sean:♥Meg is about 12 years younger than I am. {Seriously, now...don't you think the "blank" tile in Scrabble should be a heart ♥? The cookies:My original thought (a year and a half ago when I met Sean and had a feeling this day was coming) was to make a cookie Scrabble board. Using my bench scraper, I divided square cookies into fourths. I jazzed up my usual cookie recipe with 3/4 tsp vanilla bean paste in place of the 1/2 tsp vanilla extract. Kristin and Michelle did such an amazing job planning so many intricate and personal details. After cocktail hour, we went down the spiral staircase to the beach where a tented area of two long tables was set. We danced the night away and then the lights abruptly turned off.
