Well, half of the '90s hip-hop duo, that is. Today (March 27th), Gift of Gab (aka Gabby T) is to release his 3rd solo album, 'The Next Logical Progression'. The sound is deliciously old school and features a rich funk montage. Piano loops abound, as do a Motown chorus, the occasional record scratch and even a spaceship-like pew-pew every now and then. And that's just the beginning. Perhaps the album is in fact a “natural progression” from Gift of Gab’s work with producer Chief Xcel under the name of Blackalicious .mixtapes

Well, here we are 10 years on from one day in 2001 when I got a demo in the post from Jason Kohnen, otherwise known as Bong-Ra. “Riddim Wars” was the title of the very first vinyl on Deathsucker Records, and it sold out pretty damn fast! What followed was 33 releases from some of the biggest and best names in the Breakcore scene.records

Genesis of the project The Reactable was the first big project developed by this team, which at this time was integrated by Sergi Jordà, Günter Geiger, Martin Kaltenbrunner and Marcos Alonso. The project started in February 2003, with the ambitious goal of developing the best computer-based musical instrument we could imagine, without being necessarily constrained by any predefined technology.

Since I don’t have the one they asked for, here’s a great white label by him instead. For those who don’t know, Macka Brown is AKA Bug Kahn, of Bug Kahn and the Plastic Jam “Made in 2 Minutes” fame. Most of his EPs around this time were on Labello Blanco, but despite being a whitelabel, both sides of this EP are total quality in my opinion – really nice feel-good 92 stuff. Ragga vocals (the classic “going is rough” acapella by Cocoa Tea and Cutty Ranks, as used in Sonz of a Loop Da Loop “Bust that Groove” , and, more importantly, in this great YTMND ), melodic bleeps and pads, a euphoric breakdown… with a bit heavier drums or some slight melody tweaks, this EP sounds like it could have EASILY been on a big big label.
