My 90 day limit is fast approaching and I’ve heard bad, expensive things happen to travelers who overstay their welcome in Guatemala . I’ve bought my ticket to San Cristobal in Mexico and can’t really say I’m excited about the 10+ hour bus journey that starts at 5am. It’s Sunday.

I spent much of this morning on the phone with a friend who is one of the top leaders in corporate sustainability. He wanted to know my thoughts on "innovation" and "progress." Did I think they were good or bad? Did I think the drive for both helped or hindered the quest for a life that is both happier for the people and happier for the planet? It's not that there is conceptual answer to this, but most of us, when we're quiet, have a sense of whether the next step takes us towards that purpose or away from it. And most of us, too, can be tempted away from our True Direction (whatever it is).Emotions are a matter perspective. Rich people can be miserable, poor people can be happy, single people can be fulfilled, and married couples can be lonely. The most prepared amongst us can feel nervous, and the least prepared can feel confident.

Last picture of the RMS Titanic as she sailed out of harbour on April 10, 1912 Everyone knows the story. The RMS Titanic was the biggest and most opulent ocean liner ever built. It was deemed to be an unsinkable, floating pleasure palace that attracted the attention of the media, the public and the wealthy, who paid more than $4,000 (equal now to $95,000) to enjoy the luxuries of the first class cabin. On her maiden voyage from Southampton, England to New York City, she sank several hours after hitting an iceberg about 600 kilometres off the coast of Newfoundland. Though the Titanic boasted every convenience and amenity — including gymnasiums, a Turkish bath, swimming pools and an astounding amount of silverware — there were only enough lifeboats aboard to save about one-third of the passengers.

The Lost Girls - Lost Girls World
With their 28th birthdays looming, three friends quickly rocketing towards management positions, mortgages, and marriages, all share a similar fear: Is this what they want, or what they think they should want? Feeling in serious need of perspective, they decide to leave it all behind, quit their jobs, and begin an epic search for meaning and enlightenment. Traveling 60,000 miles around the world, from the mountains and jungles of South America to the beaches of Australia, passing through Kenya, India, Southeast Asia, and New Zealand along the way, the trio will not only find themselves, but a lifelong friendship. In spite of the disappointing weather, we rather enjoyed our in town getaway at the Holiday Inn near the Space Needle. We ate chowder, watched the Looney Tunes marathon on Nickelodeon, wandered around the empty Pike Place Market, and in general, just enjoyed being some place else — sort of. You can do this too, because the Holiday Inn wants to give you one night at one of their “refreshed” properties anywhere in the US. Leave me a comment with the state and city where you’d like to stay — check out the Holiday Inn site for locations.… continued…
