Nearly all major brands ‘ webpages incorporate search engine optimization tactics, but only 30 percent incorporate that same logic into their Facebook pages. So declares a press release put out by BrightEdge, which sells software for boosting SEO across the enterprise. The company reviewed the top 200 brands and found that almost all of their websites show up at or near the top of Google search results for their names, but 70 percent didn’t have Facebook or Twitter pages in the top 20 results.

According to Inside Facebook , the social giant has released a new migration tool that will allow personal profiles on the website to be converted into business pages, opening the door for businesses that originally created the wrong type of profile to move to the more corporate-friendly page structure. Profiles that are converted will lose much of their data, with Facebook stating that if a profile is converted to a business page, “only [its] profile photo and friends will be moved to [the] new Page. No other content will be moved.”
Facebook has released a new tool that lets users convert their personal profile into a Facebook Page. Though the terminology is often muddled, a key difference between the two features is that users can simply “like” a Page while they must "friend" (establish a mutual relationship with) a profile, which makes Pages a much better solution for businesses and public figures. On a help page explaining the new tool , Facebook describes what happens when you make the switch:
