Página 30. Page 32.

Elvis y Priscilla Humphrey Bogart y Lauren Bacall. Life (revista) Logotipo de la revista LIFE.

Good Costume. We'll do our Mystery Guest reveal tomorrow, darlings, but in the meantime... A recent, marvelous post over at Poseidon's Underworld, detailing the costumes Edith Head created for the all-star Ross Hunter epic, Airport (1970), started us ruminating about the fabled, eight-time-Oscar-winning designer. During the early phase of her 42 year run at Paramount (1925-1967), the untrained Head was dwarfed by the staggeringly chic creations being turned out by head designers Howard Greer and, later, Travis Banton.

When called upon, though, Head could supply the fireworks, as with the spectacular emerald sequined gown she designed for Mae West in She Done Him Wong (1933). Mae West in She Done Him Wrong (1933, Paramount)Designer: Edith Head More often, though, Head took a practical, workman-like approach -- which, it must be admitted, gave many of the costumes she worked on an undated, timeless look. It's finally happened. The Wedding of the Century has taken place - and I admit I watched it live on BBC while gossiping with my friends about everything: the trees in Westmister Abbey (they added a beyond beautiful, slightly medieval forest-like touch that went great with the dress), the Spanish royalty's looks (up with the Queen and down with Letizia!)

, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie's fabulousness (I'm a fan) and, of course, Sarah Burton's dress for Kate Middleton. Which came as such a great surprise since I was terrified with the possibility that the Princess would take inspiration from *frets* Lady Di's puffy meringue-like wedding dress rather than Grace Kelly's divine Helen Rose Hollywood-designed number. The Wedding went smoothly and it was great fun, even for us uninvited voyeurs.

And it seems to have triggered a kind of nuptial frenzy that's spreading everywhere like a virus. Beautiful Ingrid Bergman married Petter Lindström before moving to America. Inicio - esta grabación. James Schuyler, Calais, Vermont, late 1960s; photograph by Joe Brainard A Beautiful Intensity of Focus James Schuyler overcame a horrifying childhood (he described it as out of "a novel by Dostoyevsky") to largely self educate himself, which was in stark contrast to the Harvard backgrounds of the other New York School poets. He was an accomplished writer of verse, a sometime novelist, and a constant art critic. His work populated Art News, his friends Fairfield Porter, Frank O'Hara and John Ashbery influenced each other's tastes. Schuyler's letters are a treasure trove of insights from an incredibly sensitive man, and all his private writing (including his magical diary) stands alongside his superb poetry and prose despite his commentary to Anne Porter that "I do not regard personal letters as literature.

I’m getting ready to go running off to complete the zillion post-holiday errands I have on my plate, but I decided I simply must add the supplies for this project to my shopping list. Jessica is a graphic designer by trade, which is clear to see from her choice of prints for these adorable coasters that she whipped up in no time.

Jessica found these images on the flickr site of Karen Horton. Karen has amassed a treasure trove of amazing images of old postage stamps and labels. With a few simple materials, Jessica fashioned these “jumbo stamp” fabric coasters, complete with perfectly pinked edges. This is the perfect project for a laid-back weekend, especially because Jessica and Karen have graciously made the stamp designs available for download. CLICK HERE for the full how-to after the jump!
