Type Classification There are thousands of different typefaces and fonts available to designers, printers, publishers, artists and writers (as well as the general public) today. There are all types of display and text typefaces and everything in between. Most are available in a digital format from a variety of type foundries and can easily be used, and exploited, with modern computer technology. The vast amount of type available makes specific classification of every one nearly impossible and somewhat frivolous. However, it is important to have an understanding of the basic styles of typefaces to help narrow down the research and selection of the correct typeface.
Last week we featured some cool vintage type examples that we found on Etsy so this week, I thought it would be a good idea to gather up some just as cool free vintage fonts similar to the ones shown in the post. These free vintage and retro style fonts are great resources to keep on hand for those old school design projects. Download these fonts and don’t forget to organize them into a vintage font category so you can easily bust them out when needed. Background I get a lot of questions about DPI, PPI and image size, enough to indicate that a lot of people are having trouble grasping some of these concepts when applied to their images. In this article, we'll try to make the terms and concepts of DPI, PPI, and physical size a little less of a mystery while at the same time offering some simpler methods of dealing with image/file size and resolution. Understanding the terms DPI or "dots per inch" is a term that normally describes the resolution of a printer since printers produce colors by placing colored dots on a piece of paper.

Graphic Design (Vector)
There are two kinds of computer graphics - raster (composed of pixels) and vector (composed of paths). Raster images are more commonly called bitmap images. A bitmap image uses a grid of individual pixels where each pixel can be a different color or shade. Bitmaps are composed of pixels. Vector graphics use mathematical relationships between points and the paths connecting them to describe an image.
I have been on sabbatical from this blog because I am trying to track down a problem. I have an image that I want to take a portion of (an interior, randomly shaped clip mask) and fit that clipping to another shape, and I need to automate it. Sounds easy, right?
Raster Images versus Vector Images All electronic art images are divided into one of two core types, raster images (also know as 'bitmaps') and vector images. In a nutshell raster images are composed of connected dots and vectors are images composed of connected lines.

The Commons Deed is not a license. It is simply a handy reference for understanding the Legal Code (the full license) — it is a human-readable expression of some of its key terms. Think of it as the user-friendly interface to the Legal Code beneath. This Deed itself has no legal value, and its contents do not appear in the actual license.
Pallette & Colors
Putting together a great color palette for your design work can be one of the most challenging aspects of any project. And many times, color palettes are built from some source of inspiration. So why not be inspired by some of history’s greatest master artists?
