General Education & Learning

A lapbook helps a child learn about the subject and it is something they can look back on to refresh their memory later about the subject. This article is to teach you how to make a simple lapbook. Step 1: Choose a subject to use. The subject you're doing your lapbook on should be broad enough to have many sub- categories, but not too broad that the subject goes on forever. The category "animals" may be too broad, but "animal classification" or "horses" would be ideal. Step 2: After you choose the subject, choose mini books and printables to go along with the subject.

Step 3: After you have finished the study and the mini books and printables are complete, you are ready to assemble the lapbook. Step 4: Arrange the mini books on the inside of the file folder (now a lapbook) so they all fit on. Step 5: Decorate the front. Your lapbook is now done. - Lapbooks and Lapbooking from the beginning. Let me count the ways... you can make a lapbook using any number of folds and extensions... but below are shown a few simple starter rules.

How Do I Make a Lapbook

There are numerous other folds that you can make for your lapbook, but the most popular methods are "extensions" which add just a little room to your lapbook. A single file folder may not be big enough for a detailed unit study, but a double folder may well be too big. Either way, try one of these alternative folds. You can add extensions to the top and/or bottom of your folder. This is easily accomplished with cardstock, which comes in a variety of colours. Similarly, you can add a larger extension by using 11" by 17" cardstock and gluing it into place at the site of the right hand fold. Alternatively, if you have a really big project and want a larger folder in which to display it, try gluing two folders together! You can put anything you like related to the study in the folder. SHAPE BOOKS: basically a book cut into the shape of the subject.
