Notice I said every blogger , as no blog is spared of copyright theft, no matter how big or small it is. It’s a question of when, not if, so it’s important to realize that’s imperative you take the necessary precautions and measures when faced with copyright violations. Content theft has been around, since the first words have been put on paper, there’s always been vile people around to make other’s people hard work their own, but with blogging the phenomenon has deepened even further, due to the thousands and thousands of splogs .

Bitacle: A Plan for Action

Everyone is upset about Bitacle. That much is understood. No one likes the fact that they are scraping content, providing only weak attribution and then surrounding it with ads, in violation of both copyright law and (most) Creative Commons Licenses. http://www.plagiarismtoday.com/2006/09/28/bitacle-a-plan-for-action/

Stop Content Theft Buttons and Badges « Lorelle on WordPress

During the recent Bitacle Battle of Blogs , the Stopbitacle.org was started and Stop Bitacle buttons showed up on blogs all over the web. Unfortunately, stopping bitacle, a splog that scrapes your blog’s feed content without permission, is just the top of the splog ice berg. To scrape the whole ice berg of content theft, I’ve put together some buttons you are free to use to spread the word against content theft . These buttons, however, don’t work alone.
Blog Copyright is a WordPress plugin that displays a dated copyright mark. When displayed on general, category, search and author queries it provides a range of dates (first-last post years); on single posts, Pages and archive queries the year for the content will be used. Name, copyright term and reservation of rights text can be fully customized through tag parameters, or completely overridden with a custom field. Blog Copyright is not so much a new plugin for me as a collection of code I’ve been using for a while, just now wrapped up in plugin clothing. So those who might be concerned I’m not driving on towards the finish line for a certain other project , rest assured this was little more than a pit stop. http://guff.szub.net/2005/07/15/blog-copyright/

The 6 Steps to Stop Content Theft : The Blog Herald

http://www.blogherald.com/2007/11/26/the-6-steps-to-stop-content-theft/ With spammers and plagiarists becoming more prolific and more aggressive than ever, content theft is no longer a matter of “if”, but “when”. Where once protecting content was the realm of lawyers and billion-dollar industries, it is now important for Webmasters, large and small, to be familiar with both the laws and the tools available for dealing with content theft. Fortunately, the steps for fighting plagiarism are easy to follow and, for the most part, the tools are free and readily available. If you take a few moments to familiarize yourself with the process and technology, you can become a champion plagiarism fighter in short order and get back to the business of running your site before you realize how effective you’ve become. Step One: Detection The Internet is vast and detecting content theft can feel like a needle in a haystack.
It seems that the only justification left for using partial feeds is to reduce the prevalence and impact of content theft. While it certainly does that, the debate about whether or not it is worth the inconvenience it presents to users is a debate that rages on. Still, many are beginning to take a new look at the partial vs. full feed debate and some who have switched their feed over to partial are thinking about changing it back or making it full for the first time.
