Project: Pegboard Wall OrganizerTime: An afternoonCost: $30.00 (more or less) Our DIY home organization project for the New Year involved hanging a pegboard organizer in our tiny kitchen.
Although we found lots of how-tos for installing pegboard on the web, very few of them had detailed instructions and supply lists, so we thought it would be helpful to document our own experience in step-by-step form. Tools and Resources:• One 2x4-foot pegboard*• Two 4-foot 1x2 planks• Wood screws and plastic drywall anchors• Drill• Level• Tape measure• Pencil• Paint (we used some leftover Behr 510B-5 Jamaican Sea in semigloss)• Paint tray and roller• Assorted pegboard hooks *We bought our supplies at Home Depot, where pegboard, wood, screws, and hooks added up to about $30, but you could also find similar supplies at most hardware stores. Many hardware stores will cut the pegboard and 1x2s to a custom size. DIY Furniture: 8 Favorite IKEA "Fauxdenza" Tutorials.
The phenomenon known as the "fauxdenza" — using wall mounted cabinets (usually from IKEA) to create the look of a more expensive credenza — has gone from DIY trend in recent years to all-out, do-it-yourself classic.
If you still haven't tackled your own fauxdenza yet (or just need more stylish storage for home) we've chosen eight of our favorite fauxdenza tutorials from around the web to inspire your own DIY project this weekend! And the best part? These projects showcase the beauty of the fauxdenza: That even using common base components can yield fabulously diverse results when you put your own touch with material variations and design details. Pictured above: Sugar & Cloth features a fresh white fauxdenza using IKEA's Besta cabinets and Aspen wood. The Brick House has a classic fauxdenza example, a full tutorial you can find here.
These IKEA cabinets get a boost from the thick natural, semi-rough milled cherry wood piece that sits flush with the cabinets, giving it an unfussy look. How To Make Balloon Garlands. Now, can we talk about jewelry today? Or rather the organizing of it? I have to reign myself in because I have a lot to say surrounding this topic for some reason and I don't want to just go on and on too much. 1) I want to say that for a year I have been searching for a jewelry holder/system that wasn't ugly or cluttered looking and even with the aid of Pinterest, I found nothing that truly spoke to me about who I was, how I decorated and wanted to display my own jewelery on a shoestring budget. 2) I need to say that this project feels very personal for me too, because I have been trying to make an effort with my appearance this new year.
I don't want to just throw on yoga pants and settle for what's comfortable and not all together cute because it's easy. 3) When I said shoestring budget I meant it. 5) But back to my necklaces... what to do exactly about those?! DIY ROPE WRAPPED MASON JAR LIGHTS. 27th January 2014 As some of you may have noticed, in the last few years my interests have evolved from fashion DIYs to a mix of interiors and fashion. It could be a product of getting older (although I’m not up to ‘nesting’ just yet), although it’s more likely due to my boyfriend and I working more closely together than we have in the past (we pretty much sit back to back in the office). As an interior designer (mainly restaurants recently), he’s always coming across super cool DIY ideas for the spaces he designs.
Sadly for me, usually the short timeframes for his projects don’t give me a chance to get crafty (in Hong Kong restuarants are designed and built in like, a week), but on one of his recent projects, Fish & Meat, I got the chance to get DIYing! The restaurant was designed with a slight Scandinavian feel, rustic but clean and minimal, and Ben got me onboard to create some rope wrapped mason jar lights to go above each of the tables.
