2014 Spring - Diana Elledge

Introduction The true meaning of “Library and Information Science” can be elusive to those who don’t work within the profession. To many, library is the focus, and librarianship obfuscates the “information science” aspect of the field. Information science, however, affects every aspect of modern society. Like any science, it produces something of true worth to those it affects. 2014 Spring - WordPress.com. The Forever Theme. -Lewis. Spring 2014 - GOOD own site - Diana Elledge. Spring 2014 - GOOD own site - Diana Elledge

Introduction All libraries serve an audience, and knowing that audience doesn’t only affect the services, it affects the nature of a library. The various models for libraries that we’ve come to know reflect an advanced understanding of a patron’s needs and a library’s limitations. Special library types allow librarians to focus their time and resources toward the content that matters most. These types can span from subject topic, to access limitations, to the type of resources.

There are two ways to be granted an MLIS degree from San Jose State University’s School of Library and Information Science; one is to write a thesis, the other is to prepare an e-portfolio. As part of my coursework, I took Historical Research Methods, during which I wrote a thesis proposal; at the end of that course, I decided that I would prefer reviewing and synthesizing what I’ve learned in all of my classes to writing a thesis on a narrow topic.

Hester's Google Sites!! Fall 2012

The pages on this website were created as the culminating experience for my Master’s in Library and Information Sciences from San Jose State University. I entered this program Fall of 2008 and have learned more than I thought possible over the past four years. I started planning for the ePortfolio my first semester with the understanding that I would need to use my coursework to show that I am competent to be called a librarian. Before I even began my first class I made an ePortfolio folder on my computer and proceeded to add evidences to that folder as I completed class assignments.

Beginning with my second semester I also uploaded all course material and assignments completed to Google Docs as a backup system. I decided to use Google sites as my ePortfolio platform so that I could share my portfolio with others in the future. This final project, created in ten short weeks, was truly a four year journey.
