Hope Hall for the Humanities. From Great Halls to the Halls of Academia to the hall of the farmer's cottage that doubled as a guest room, halls have been places of festival, learning, and repose.

Hope Hall for the Humanities

Whether a destination or a passage to other places, halls present us with an opportunity for sharing, for introspection, for display, or for working. Hope Hall for the Humanities, not being constrained by physical architectural barriers, can be many halls at once. Here you will find a Gallery of humanities related projects, a Scriptorium for information on electronic texts, a Workroom for learning how to create in this web world, a Courtyard where you can visit other web spaces nearby, and even a Closet, where I have stashed other information related to my work as a Humanities Computing Specialist and Graduate Student in History. I hope you enjoy your visit. Any comments can be directed to me at Hope.Greenberg@uvm.edu or by way of the Guest Book. Exhibition portraits of American Indians, by W.... I can barely believe it, but week 52 of the Bracelet a Week challenge has arrived, and everything is wrapped up in a neat little bow.

A Bracelet a Week: Happy New Year

Bracelet number fifty-two is complete, and there are only hours left until the end of the year. Thank you so much for joining me and encouraging me during this challenge! For the final bracelet, I wanted to do something colorful and celebratory. I’ve made a habit during these challenges to use rainbow themes for final designs, and I didn’t see any reason not to do it again this time. Because this challenge is ending at the start of the New Year, I was inspired to create something that might resemble stars and fireworks.

Happy New Year! Out with the Old, in with the New!

Wow! Where did that year go? I was just sitting in the drive-thru with my sister yesterday talking about how we feel like we totally missed the whole year! Well, 2012 is upon us for better or for worse. I found this little comic about the Mayan calendar and thought I'd share. Oh, and also in anticipation of the new year, I started the cleaning! I'm destashing a bunch of magazines that I've collected over the past two years. I have a lot of doubles, and so I'm passing them your way. I've listed the whole lot (there are more than you see here) and priced them at only $2 each (plus shipping). A couple of them are in mint condition, but all of them are in good condition. If you've always wanted to start beadweaving, here's a chance to get a ton of projects for pocket change. If you'd like more information on how to purchase, here is the listing: Destash Mags I'll keep checking back throughout the day to change the listing as they sell.

Try-to-be-better. The dolls are rolling in and out again. It is so interesting to me how some beaded dolls sit there and refuse to give you a clue as to what they want, and others just jump into your stash of beads and fling what they want at you!

The dolls are rolling in and out again

I know this is figuratively, but really-some you can just stare at for weeks, then you pick what YOU want to put on, but don't really know if you are happy with what you have done, or not. Others seem to whisper into your intuitive ear, and the design flows. Aline's Persphy, a felt doll, had that wondrous flow. She came with her grape leaves about her face, but they were a bit floppy. Folks at the retreat enjoyed seeing her, but were hesitant to hold her with the loose beads. I reglued it, but the cabbing threads had been part of the same threads for the Czech pressed glass grape beads, so they were loose. That grapevine was the fastest design that ever happened for me.
