Last week, one of the many, many press releases that was emailed over to us here at Thrash Hits was an announcement from Century Media that they’d signed a death metal band called Vallenfyre . “So far, so what?”, right? We clicked on the link they gave us to the band’s website, cast a cursory glance at the band’s moody’n'shadowy promo pic, before nodding in appreciation at Vallenfyre’s dirty, crusty rumble.
So Vallenfyre's a supergroup then? Oh. Okay. | Thrash Hits
Staff Lists: The Top 50 Albums of 2010
Our Year in Music 2010 coverage has featured our Top 100 Tracks , Top Music Videos , the Year in Photos , our Best of Pitchfork.tv, the Best of Pitchfork News , and the Worst Album Covers of the year. Yesterday, we had the Albums of the Year 2010: Honorable Mention , our list of 20 great albums that didn't make our album list, and today and tomorrow, we'll be counting down the Top 50 proper. We start today with Nos. 50-21, tomorrow is the Top 20. Amazon have provided samples of the songs below and they've also set up pages for purchasing the music on our lists. I've been making these sorts of lists long enough to know they're not an exact science, and they don't please everyone. In the end, they're snapshots that remind the individual stressing out over said list about what was important to them within a particular time span. They're also fun to argue about. So read on for my Top 40 Metal Albums of 2011, along with a slew of Honorable Mentions and explanations as to why bands including Liturgy and Leviathan did not make the list.
