Capitol janitors making ‘ends meet’ with overtime? Nope. (Carolyn Kaster/AP) “You know, those Capitol janitors will not get as much overtime. I’m sure they think less pay, that they’re taking home, does hurt.” — Gene Sperling, director of the White House economic council, on ABC News’ “This Week,” March 3, 2013 “On the issue of the janitors, if you work for an hourly wage and you earn overtime, and you depend on that overtime to make ends meet, it is simply a fact that a reduction in overtime is a reduction in your pay.” — White House spokesman Jay Carney, news briefing, March 4 At a news conference last Friday, President Obama claimed that, “starting tomorrow,” the “folks cleaning the floors at the Capitol” had “just got a pay cut” because of the automatic federal spending cuts known as the sequester.

Still, the White House has kept up its spin offensive, claiming that a cut in “overtime” was a de facto pay cut and thus the president was right — or at least not wrong. So, we wondered: How much overtime do Capitol Hill janitors actually make? Obama administration tells feds to make sure the sequester hurts as much as advertised. By Doug Powers • March 5, 2013 03:28 PM **Written by Doug Powers A shorter way to phrase the message being sent to federal agencies is “whatever you do, don’t make liars out of us”: The Obama administration denied an appeal for flexibility in lessening the sequester’s effects, with an email this week appearing to show officials in Washington that because they already had promised the cuts would be devastating, they now have to follow through on that.In the email sent Monday by Charles Brown, an official with the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service office in Raleigh, N.C., Mr.

They break promises all the time and this is the one they want to keep? J-Nap is dutifully obliging, however. “Sorry, but the only person who could help you got furloughed yesterday. By Doug Powers • February 28, 2013 04:13 PM **Written by Doug Powers There are around 150 million people employed in the United States at the moment. According to Rep. Maxine Waters, the sequester will have such a devastating impact that all of those people will lose their jobs, and 20 million of them will lose their jobs twice: Yesterday we did have Mr. Bernanke in our committee and he came to tell us what he’s doing with quantitative easing and that is trying to stimulate the economy with the bond purchases that he’s been doing because he’s trying to keep the interest rates low and jobs – and he said that if sequestration takes place, that’s going to be a great setback. Waters apparently took the 750,000 jobs lost figure she got from US Progressives and multiplied that by over 226 in the interest of accuracy: What’s the problem? Other Maxine Waters stats here. The White House Court Jesters of Sequester. The White House Court Jesters of Sequester by Michelle MalkinCreators Syndicate Copyright 2013 Traffic alert: There’s a massive clown car pileup in the Beltway. And with the White House court jesters of sequester behind the wheel, no one is safe. Fiscal sanity, of course, is the ultimate victim. President Obama has been warning America that if Congress allows mandatory spending “cuts” of a piddly-widdly 2 percent to go into effect this week, the sky will fall.

The manufactured crisis of “sequestration” was Obama’s idea in the first place. But that hasn’t stopped the Chicken Little in Chief from surrounding himself with every last teacher, senior citizen and emergency responder who will be catastrophically victimized by hardhearted Republicans. How low will the kick-the-can Democrats go? Wrong. Ready for more reckless, feckless farce? U.S. In another emetic performance, Obama parachuted into a Virginia naval shipyard this week to decry Pentagon cuts that would gut our military.

Like this: Sequestration: Where Could We POSSIBLY Cut the Federal Budget? If you had to cut your family’s budget, where would you cut? Would you immediately start starving your children and stop wearing shoes? Of course not. You would look at the extras in your life—whether they were coffee shop lattes, movie tickets, or restaurant meals. It’s a good thing the President wouldn’t be handling your budget. Now that President Obama has turned against sequestration, he is suggesting that spending cuts to federal agencies must result in dire consequences. But the question remains: Why would federal agencies cut their most vital assets instead of trimming around the edges? Take a couple of examples. President Obama said that “Air traffic controllers and airport security will see cutbacks, which means more delays at airports across the country.”

It won’t come as a surprise to most Americans that there is waste and inefficiency at the Transportation Security Administration (TSA). President Obama said that “Thousands of teachers and educators will be laid off.” Quick Hits: US Budget for Dummies. Future Generations Will Pay Today’s Debt. Moment/ZUMA Press/Newscom You may be wondering whether anyone, after all, went over the fiscal cliff at the end of December. News reports about Congress’s last-second legislation certainly conveyed the impression that everyone stepped away from that fateful edge.

However, if you are under the age of 35, that rushing sound you hear right now is your financial future plummeting down the cliff face and into the valley of national debt. The truth for you is that the American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012 serves as yet another dismal solution in a long string of unserious attempts to resolve our nation’s uncertain fiscal future. All of the political posturing to avoid blame for a potentially self-induced recession resulted in $600 billion in tax hikes over 10 years and little to no spending cuts. The name “Generation Y” has been given to the generation of young working adults under 35 who have been hit the hardest by the crippled job market. Where to place the blame? William Beach. Obama’s Tax Evaders of the Year. Well, it happened last night. The U.S. Senate Democrats and bend-over Republicans delivered a massive tax-hike/puny spending-cut bill in the ratio of 41-to-1 tax hikes to spending cuts. This is the Washington idea of a “balanced approach” to our fiscal woes.

The McConnell-Biden love connection screwed us over big time. But as American families, business owners, and struggling entrepreneurs now brace for their “fair share” punishment, many of Obama’s wealthiest friends are busy evading the tax hikes their candidate spearheaded. Let’s ring in the new year exposing the hypocrites. 1/3 update: The New York Times reports that Al Gore sold his ailing Current TV network to terror-coddling al Jazeera because he had wanted to unload it by December 31 for tax reasons: Al Jazeera did not disclose the purchase price, but people with direct knowledge of the deal pegged it at around $500 million, indicating a $100 million payout for Mr.

Being president of the United States must fill a person with a certain level of confidence. Winning reelection despite miserable economic conditions could only add to that level. But has there ever been a president in the history of this country as arrogant as Barack Obama?

Not only does he never miss an opportunity to inject his image into historical events, but now he's even adding himself to historical descriptions of other presidents. Back in August, I wrote on the passing of the first man to step foot on the moon, Neil Armstrong. As a "tribute" to Armstrong, Obama posted a picture of himself gazing up at the moon. When the focus should have been on Armstrong's family and friends and a nation who was appreciative of his accomplishments, Obama made it about himself.

Fast forward to last week, which marked the 57th anniversary of Rosa Parks' daring stand against discrimination when she refused to give up her seat on a bus. But that's not all. . * Franklin D. . * Richard M. Peter Schiff: The Fantasy of a 91% Top Income Tax Rate. Obama’s “Balanced” Fiscal Cliff Plan: Tax Increases, Phantom Budget Cuts. In one of heaven’s sweeter ironies, President Obama today launched the defense of his fiscal cliff proposal at a factory that makes…tinker toys. The setting perfectly reflected the Administration’s level of seriousness about the budget. The “plan,” presented to Republican leaders yesterday, consists of $1.6 trillion in tax hikes over 10 years and unspecified spending cuts that “could total” $400 billion over the same period.

So estimating liberally, the package consists of at least $4 of tax increases to $1 of spending cuts—and that’s if the promised spending reductions do materialize (which is far from certain). This is the Obama definition of “a balanced plan.” It gets better. Put simply: Spend now, save later. About all of this, a few points: First, the emphasis on tax hikes first is totally misguided—and has been from the beginning. Second, controlling spending requires restructuring government entitlements—especially Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security.
