Derby Public: Math. In math this year, your child will be reviewing and building on many concepts from previous grades.
We will be closely following the Common Core State Standards and this means that the expectations will be high and the concepts will be challenging. One area that I find the majority of 4th graders need more work with is memorizing MULTIPLICATION FACTS! We will review these in class through games as often as possible but any time spent at home to really have these facts become automatic in the students’ minds would greatly benefit them. Mad Minutes Periodically, students will be given a timed basic facts math test on addition, subtraction, multiplication or division facts (multiplication and division later in the year).
Math Homework Anytime your child does not have written math homework, I highly recommend 10 minutes of reviewing their multiplication facts with flashcards.
