Arts Integration. TeachKidsArt. Milk Jug Decorative Window Crafts. Jun30 by Lindsey Boardman We’re always looking for cheap or– better yet– free materials to craft with here, so we’ve played around with crafting all sorts of things out of those big plastic gallon milk jugs over the last couple of years.

The type of plastic they are made from is pretty versatile as far as crafting goes. You can cut it easily with scissors, use hole punches on it, stick it with hot glue and best of all you can draw on it with permanent markers with great results due to it being semi-opaque and mildly textured on one side. We have two crafts here to show you. Milk Jug Window Art Then I used a sturdy pair of scissors to cut out any flat side panels from the milk jug plastic. If you have really little kids then you could cut them simple shapes to scribble colors on like hearts or flowers or circles etc, or even the letters of their name.

The activity itself couldn’t have been more fun. The funnier part however was the day the girls chose to do this activity. We made fall art on a really HOT day! To make some amazing puffy paint right at home, I used the recipe from Mom to 2 posh lil Divas Ingredients for puffy paint 1 cup white flour2 Tbsp baking powder2 Tbsp saltWater Start adding water gradually until you reach a consistency of pancake batter. Why? I did this activity with my toddler and you how long a toddler activity lasts –however pintastic it is! I kept it simple with my almost two-year old with a very short attention span. Things you need Craft sticksPlastic clothespinsOld yogurt container Before I go on, I can guarantee you that many toddlers (especially if they have older siblings) will pretend the clothespins is an alligator and will try to snap you or worse snap themselves.

Use caution and please supervise. Initially, my plan was to just clip clothespins on an empty yogurt container. We did this for a little while and baby A was off to snapping her hair with clothespins and having a “gigglishy” good time. When the snapping clothespins timer went off, she started snapping clothespins on the craft sticks. Once she practiced with a few, she started her requests. Candy Creations. She really does a good job of explaining it on her site, but I’ll try to do it here too. The idea is to practice the consonants, blends, digraphs and common word families. I have to admit I was a tad intimidated to walk into Lowe’s and grab a whole pile of paint chips, but the lady was talking to me the whole time and didn’t seem to mind.

(Note: I did try Home Depot first, but didn’t like their paint chips, they were mostly 1 color on a card and didn’t have the ones with the hole cut out. Though later, I decided the hole was too small and used a 1 1/4″ hole punch to make it bigger.)
