Valentines and Heart Projects Round-Up

Today I'm sharing some Valentines and heart projects--many of these are fast and fun projects that you still have time to make before next week... First up is this adorable heart pillow that my daughter Chelsi made recently. (I helped her out just a little bit by doing the simple machine quilting for her). She decided to make the heart pillow because she had recently finished up heart quilts for both of her girls and wanted a fun pillow sham to coordinate. Ok, mine and a few other very talented ladies who are noted below. I signed up for this hop as for all others with the desire for fun and maybe some stretch outside of my usual comfort zone. Madame Samm's brilliant idea coupled with Soma from Whims and Fancies wonderful patterns were definitely outside of my comfort zone. I have 2 problems with paper piecing. First is I can't get a handle on the angle I need to place fabrics from the back. It took me hours to make one heart with arrow. All the hearts and valentine projects I have been seeing here in the blogosphere inspired me to come up with a quick project that I could get done this weekend. I came up with this free pattern for a Valentine Wall Hanging called “Feel the Love”. Here is a quick tutorial! Fabric needed: a layer cake or (10-12) 10″ squares and 1/2 yd of background fabric.

I used a layer cake of Twice as Nice by The Quilted Fish for Riley Blake Designs. Cut into 1.5″ strips. Sew your strips into strip sets of 6 each. Cut a 3.5″ strip and set aside, we are not using this portion. Take Heart Pattern - Angela Pingel - Brewer. Heartland Pattern - Sue Daley Designs - Riley Blake. The tragedy has touch many of us in one way or another. The out pour of love, donations and willingness to help is second to none. Rainbows and hearts. These hearts are very easy to make and you'll soon be saying 'just one more'! Sweet Surprise. Busy time of the year, right?! It happens every holiday. Same time every year. Sneaky, sneaky holidays ready to bite you in the butt! Tish's Adventures in Wonderland: Heart Quilt for Pulse. Today I am celebrating the finish of my Heart Quilt for Pulse!!! As we speak it should be on it's way to the fine quilters of the Orlando MQG.

Honestly, this one should have been finished weeks ago, but when I found out my Sweet Sixteen was on it's way (I had the white background finished) I decided to wait for her arrival before I quilted the hearts. Back in June, when the Orlando MQG put their call out for help with their Quilts for Pulse charity, I new I would like to help. Step one would be sorting through my stash to see what I had in the way of rainbow colors. So I carried the totes containing colored fabrics to the living room. Love Letters Quilt. I am a B-I-G Liberty fan - that is no secret! So when Alice Caroline put out an Exclusive Collection - this was just a natural addition to my collection and resistance - futile.

Alice Caroline has the most beautiful stocked stop with Liberty fabrics that just sing. I was so excited when this curated Collection by Alice was introduced as so many of my favourite prints were re-coloured and given that Alice Caroline magical touch. Who can resist a "snippy corner". I just love the colours in the prints and who well they all play together. For the Background White fabric I also used Liberty Tana Lawn and it really helps the project all tie in with such a draped feel to the quilt. Patchwork Heart Mini. I am completely and absolutely blown away by how amazing all the projects that have been made by my Blogging friends are. I am so inspired by each of them and then to see how they have taken the patterns from my book - Weekend Quilting and made it their own is breath taking.

I am also, so very humbled at the words they have all written within their posts, the time they have all taken out of their busy schedules and family lives and just how willing everyone was to be a part of celebrating my first book.
