Here's my little schpeal on swaps. Just my two cents on the whole thing. A little advice, if you will. Please, don't sign up for a swap if you aren't active on Instagram, or Pinterest, or at least a blog.

If you just join IG in order to join a swap, it makes things difficult for the person assigned to you. It's hard to personalize things, even extras, if we've got nothing to go on.Fill out your form. Answer the questions. "I don't know" is not an answer. "Not sure" is not an answer. Okay. Wasn't entirely sure what my partner would like (yeah, she inspired that little lecture!)

The swap had to be made from 75% stash. Wonderland Mini Quilt Patterns. Finish: SSM5 Swap – Play Crafts. I’ve shown some sneak peaks of my Sew Sew Modern 5 swap items, but didn’t want to show the full package until my partner received them. Well my partner, Deanna @ Little D and Me, received them so we’re good to go! Sew Sew Modern is a swap of one larger item and a coordinating smaller item. Coordinating can mean whatever you want it to mean, though. Deanna requested a mini-quilt with a saying on it for her daughter’s room.

I spent a lot of time looking at sayings and asking friends with kids what sayings would be appropriate (and short enough to put on a quilt) and in the end the first idea won out, “You are my sunshine.” The lettering uses the “My First Alphabet” pattern by From Blank Pages…, available on Craftsy. I loved that song as a kid! (BTW, does anyone know what that main backing fabric is? For the small item, I found a photo of a dandelion embroidery hoop project in my partner’s flickr favorites, and I really loved it. As for me? And the little pouch is just awesomely cute! After you check out her tutorial, head over to her blog for a chance to win a fat quarter bundle of Lady in Red. After seeing the beautiful Lady In Red fabric line from Ro Gregg, my first thought was to make a quilt showing off the stunning contrast of black and red. I wanted to make this a quick quilt project, and I think the following tutorial would be a perfect beginner project for a quilter - it helps to practice all the necessary and precise quilting rules, but gets you a quick finish to help you fall in love with the world of quilting.

Anna's Mini Quilt. Happy Tuesday! I can't believe June is already over, the month absolutely flew by! Itsi time to share one last mini quilt!

This one was made for my friend Anna! When I sat down to decide on colors for this quilt, I knew I wanted to stick to neutrals with a pop of color. Anna has such cool style and I know she is drawn to this type of palette. I love the way this mini quilt turned out! All the fabrics used in this mini are from Art Gallery Fabrics. The background print contains vintage ads/logos for sewing notions and trimmings (available here at Sew Me A Song). I immediately had this curvy paper pieced dress in mind when reading the text. Look at those curves! As I've mentioned before, I am focusing on smaller projects and building my confidence in FMQ and other skills. Here is the paper pieced block standing alone without the border. I've made the {betty dress} block up into a pattern if you'd like to try it yourself.

I have to fess up to not being into the whole “mini quilt” thing when it became popular. I mean, what is the point of a mini quilt??! Now I’m sticking my big foot in my mouth…because these were so much fun to make. I get it now! I love making mini quilts! I especially love not having to crawl around on the ground to lay out blocks. I could lay the whole mini quilt out on my sewing table and not even have to move!

Plus they are a fun challenge, all those tiny pieces take some concentration. I made 7 of my older patterns into minis, basically the ones that you had asked for, and I felt worked best in a mini-version. Even the bindings were fun to hand sew…and quick! My favorite 3 of the bunch is Spin Cycle, Suburbs, and Pow Wow. You can find the pattern booklet in my shop here, in a booklet paper version or a PDF (letter sized printable) version. After making/writing all these I feel like I need to make something big! Related I Heart You Free Mini Quilt Pattern January 21, 2016 Shimmer. Fly A Kite Quilt & HRTs. Ever wondered how to sew and trim half rectangle triangle (HRT) blocks? Well you’ve come to the right place!

Let me show you how I like to do them. HRTs add another fun shape to your quilt designing arsenal. You can make cool, elongated diamonds and zigzags and parallelograms and…long spikey things. The list goes on and on. If you’ve made half square triangles (HSTs) before you might be thinking, no sweat, an HRT is just a stretched out HST. Being square, you can rotate an HST 90 degrees and still have an identical shape but with the diagonal seam reversed. Above: An HST block rotated 90 degrees each time – every diagonal option and colour placement option can be achieved with the one block. If you rotate an HRT 90 degrees to change the direction of the diagonal you will NOT have the same shape. Above: The HRT’s diagonal direction will determine the layouts. All that to say – when making half rectangle triangles you have to pay attention to the direction you need your diagonal to face. Nebula Mini Quilt. TGIFF - Faith, Hope, Love. Welcome to Thank Goodness It's Finished Friday!

And Happy (Canadian) Thanksgiving!! I had the pleasure of testing a pattern for Karen @ Sugar Free Quilts. I tested the traditional piecing pattern -- there will also be a paper pieced version. Some of the pieces were small, but I kept going...and then there were two words. And finally all three words. And then as usual...the tough decision on how to quilt. Now it's time for you to link up your finishes. (Cannot add links: Registration/trial expired) If you do have a finish this week, consider also linking up with: One of Those Days. Challenging free pattern tutorial will test your accurate seam allowances to make a mini quilt with 448 pieces. We all have those days… and those projects! I really like the secondary design that is created by this block, and really wanted to try the block out, so it seemed like a good idea to try it out really small. Not to scare anyone off, but there are 448 tiny pieces in this quilt. If you are careful and precise, it is a do-able project, I promise! I called it one of those days because as I was assembling it, I was making pretty good progress. What I did not notice, was that a second thing was not like the others. Lil Foxes for Mom.
