Happiness and Positive Psychology Researchers Michelle Gielan,Shawn Achor

Shawn Achor and Michelle Gielan founded the Institute for Applied Positive Research to anchor GoodThink research efforts. The Institute works to bridge the gap between cutting-edge academic research in the field of positive psychology and best practices within corporate and community cultures around the world. We provide research services to companies in order to raise employee engagement and success by: - Offering Metrics for evaluating engagement and employee performance- Identifying return on investment for different interventions and training programs- Providing long term support for ensuring that a company is running at optimal levels.

Heutagogy. In education, heutagogy, is a term coined by Stewart Hase and Chris Kenyon of Southern Cross University in Australia, and is also called self-determined learning.

Heutagogy

The basic tenet of the approach is that it is the learner who should be at the centre of their own learning, and hence that 'learning' should not be seen as teacher-centric or curriculum-centric, but learner-centric. (1) Since the theory was first launched in 2000 it has become accepted as a practical proposition with its approach being particularly suitable in e-learning environments. Recent (post-2010) research into brain plasticity indicates that the approach can be useful in increasing learning capability. (2) [1] See also[edit] References[edit] Start Here. Journal of Consumer Research, Vol. 39, No. 4 (December 2012), pp. 784-799

Results from five experiments demonstrate that a moderate (70 dB) versus low (50 dB) level of ambient noise enhances performance on creative tasks and increases the buying likelihood of innovative products. A high level of noise (85 dB), on the other hand, hurts creativity. Process measures reveal that a moderate (vs. low) level of noise increases processing difficulty, inducing a higher construal level and thus promoting abstract processing, which subsequently leads to higher creativity. A high level of noise, however, reduces the extent of information processing and thus impairs creativity. Electronically published March 21, 2012. The NeuroLeadership Institute helps individuals and organizations fulfill their potential through better understanding how the human brain functions, at the level of individuals, teams and whole systems. The purpose of the NeuroLeadership Institute is to encourage, generate and share neuroscience research that transforms how people think, develop and perform. The Institute has structured the field into four domains. For many people, it would be self-improvement and knowledge. New knowledge is the backbone of society's progress. Great thinkers such as Leonardo da Vinci, Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin, Albert Einstein, and others' quests for knowledge have led society to many of the marvels we enjoy today.

Transforming Bodies + Lifestyles. Inspiring people to change their behaviors in order to become healthier remains one of the most intractable challenges.

Transforming Bodies + Lifestyles

But it also remains one of the most significant. Fifty-percent of all deaths each year are the result of potentially preventable chronic diseases such as heart disease—costing hundreds of billions of dollars annually. To address these and other challenges, behavior change efforts will be central to shaping the future of health and health care. This environmental scan, Transforming Bodies and Lifestyles: Insights into Inspiring Behavior Change, identifies key strategies that stakeholders throughout the global health economy can use to help people make lasting changes that promote long-term health. It takes a broad look at emerging theories of motivation to identify key insights in the form of opportunities to intervene to change unhealthy behaviors and enable people to build capacities to create health and well-being in their own lives.

Cult Deprogramming" Deprogramming is the more drastic of the two approaches because it usually involves an initial kidnapping to get the cult member away from the cult. For this reason, deprogramming is a very expensive service. It can cost in the tens of thousands of dollars. After the forced removal, deprogramming mostly involves hours and hours of intense "debriefing," during which a team of deprogrammers hold the cult member against his will and use ethical psychological techniques to try to counter the unethical psychological techniques used by the cult.

The goal is to get the cult member to think for himself and re-evaluate his situation. Debriefing methods can include: Thought Reform: Belief Follows Behavior. Belief Follows Behavior When converting to a new faith, it is often the behavior of a person that changes first, then the belief. A new member is attracted by love bombing and other factors, they pick up on social cues and model the behavior. Then comes the conviction in belief. This is true of many cults, even in the Mormon Church where so many are born into it, mimic the behavior their entire lives, and only gain a testimony as a teen, or on their missions.
