Turismo en Otavalo - tourism in Otavalo » Home. 11 Day Ecuador Itinerary - Lonely Planet travel forum. Hey debbiefried, One of the more well-known one is the hike around Cuicocha Lake. If you start at the entry to the trail up the dirt road and do it clockwise (taxi drivers will know), it will take you about three hours. Easy to medium difficulty, with stunning views of the lake, lots of interesting vegetation, restaurant on the lakeshore.

Also nice is the hike up from Otavalo to the Lechero-Tree with great views of San Pablo-Lake and Otavalo town, then you hike down the other side to the lake, the follow the dirtroad along the outflow of the lake, leading to Peguche Waterfall (very pretty). A bit more off the beaten track is a a hike to a pretty waterfall within some native forest near the community of Pijal near Lake San Pablo. takes about 4 hours roundtrip, the last bit is a bit difficult and muddy, a guide is recommended. Very nice is the loop hike around Lake Mojanda, but the weather can be nasty there, and the trail is not always easy to find...plus it is more in the 5 hour range. Best rafting from Macas- not Banos - Lonely Planet travel forum.

HI, I just came back from from an amazing trip in Ecuador, Peru and Bolivia with my bf, luckily our travels went great, and we had no problems! :D Just thought that we would recommend a great tour agency in Ecuador, as we find it hard to find reliable and trustworthy people: After doing a VERY disappointing rafting with a random agency in Banos (as all of them look alike and offer the same thing), they promised level 3 waters however it felt more like 0 as barely had any high rapids, the one good thing about it was the guide;s high energy. But we were definitely disappointed and thought it was not worth the money. So we headed to Macas (as we wanted some real jungle) and found that they only seem to have about 4 agencies, so we looked at all. Darwin was accompanied by a friend, who didn't seem friendly at first, but soon grew warm to us. We hope that this has helped! Manu, peru - gap year A mere eight hours from Cuzco through windy jungle roads and we get to the crossing of two rivers. Another 30 minutes by dugout canoe and we arrive in the Mascoitania reserve, right on the border of the Manu National Park. Something quite so remote shouldn't be at too much risk you would think, but sadly it is being attacked from all sides.

Indigenous communities in the national park, settlers coming along the road, tourist "ecolodges" appearing all the time and of course the wildlife and forests suffering more than anyone else. Bringing sustainable forestry practises to the communities, reforesting damaged areas of jungle, improving the facilities for the communities so they don't have to move on elsewhere will make up your time, never a dull moment for sure! Where: the Manu Biosphere Reserve, Peruvian Amazon what: conservation and community development how long: 3 weeks.
