I can see plenty of pretty apps that have one or two of the above features, but not all 3, and those 3 features are just the basics, even in relation to the free version of NNW which I'm currently using (by the way, what a shame Vienna doesn't sync with Google Reader). There are certainly better alternatives out there for the iPhone and as with a lot of people, I had a rough time last year failing to sync NNW properly but, as someone who somehow kept with it (luckily the syncing now seems ok for me), who spends most of my time reading, not posting feeds, Netnewswire on a Mac still fits my needs as a stand alone product and compares favourably to the competition out there. In that regard, it is inevitable that in this day and age, many will demand new features, like posting to Twitter, etc, and for the GUI to look more like a shiny, pretty iPad app. http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/10350/netnewswire

smcFanControl

In 2010 I bought a used 2009 MBP running Leopard, and noticed the first day that the bottom was very hot. During the next couple weeks of use, I noticed the temp was always around 170 degrees when idle, often hitting 185 or more while surfing, and would easily rise to 210 when running Disk Utility or some other small app - I don't do any audio or video editing or anything intensive. There was about a month of warranty remaining when I bought it, so I called about the temps, and after a few calls they agreed it should be looked at. They ended up replacing the thermal module, both fans and the Superdrive.
