And I made some cute ones for Dr Seuss’ The Lorax movie that comes out March 2. These were fun to recreate in bright colors and cake. Here’s a run down so you can go make. Okay, I can’t rhyme – Let’s just get this ball rolling. It’s time. First up are Bar-ba-loots. Okay, that’s enough. I like to roll my cake balls by hand first so I can make sure I have enough and if I need to, I can make some of them bigger or smaller at the end to keep them all about the same size.

(At the end of the post, I’ll share a pdf you can download for all of these cake pops.) Once they’re rolled, you can reshape them however you like. For Bar-ba-loots, roll them into an oval and pinch in on the four rounded corners. Pinch more at the top than at the bottom and then press down on the top center to make a spot for the eyes. For the big floppy ears, I used chocolate candy coating wafers. Just cut a small edge off with a rounded cutter and dip the wafer into melted candy coating. That’s right. Cheesecake Bars. I was in the mood for something cold and lip-smackingly sweet. Something I could sink my teeth into. Something to maintain my weight. So I made this treat with a few of my favorite things.

Cheesecake. Chocolate. And these cookies. If you ever fly Delta, then you’ve probably had them before. They’re a crunchy, no-frills, sans chocolate type of cookie. So I thought they would be great to use for the cheesecake crust. Throw the cookies into a food processor and chop them up into beautiful golden brown cookie powder. About 1 1/2 cups worth. Then add 3 tablespoons of brown sugar. Don’t you love how packed brown sugar looks? To make the crust, mix the cookie crumbs and brown sugar together. Mix up the cheescake ingredients and pour it on the crust. Oh yeah! Then bake it at 325 degrees for about 45 minutes.

And let it cool. And try not to eat it. Then whip up some chocolate ganache to pour on top. Oh yeah. Spread the chocolate evenly on top of the cheesecake and then refrigerate overnight. Untitled. As per this blog post from July, we have officially closed the advanced suite of Flash tools (previously located at advanced.aviary.com) in order to focus on our new company direction powering the photo experience in 3rd party apps. While we hoped that everyone would have taken the time to retrieve their files since our notice, we recognize that the message may not have been seen by everyone.

Therefore, if you were not able to retrieve all of your files to date, please contact us at support@aviary.com from the email address associated with your account to help retrieve your files. Do this quickly. Please note that after September 30th, 2012, we cannot guarantee that your files will still be available for us to retrieve. While the tools will remain offline, we may continue to explore new homes in whole or in part, for specific elements of the suite.

I would like to make a few recommendations for alternate tools to try: Thank you to those of you who gave awards to the advanced suite. 60 Most Stunning Typography Inspiration of All Time. Colossal | An art and design blog. Judith Braun. NYC artist Judith Braun creates enormous symmetrical wall paintings using nothing but black paint and her fingers. (via manzárd café) One man, 100,000 toothpicks, and 35 years: An incredible kinetic sculpture of San Francisco. Thirty five years ago I had yet to be born, but artist Scott Weaver had already begun work on this insanely complex kinetic sculpture, Rolling through the Bay, that he continues to modify and expand even today. The elaborate sculpture is comprised of multiple “tours” that move pingpong balls through neighborhoods, historical locations, and iconic symbols of San Francisco, all recreated with a little glue, some toothpicks, and an incredible amount of ingenuity. He admits in the video that there are several toothpick sculptures even larger than his, but none has the unique kinetic components he’s constructed.

Via his website Weaver estimates he’s spent over 3,000 hours on the project, and the toothpicks have been sourced from around the world: I have used different brands of toothpicks depending on what I am building. I also have many friends and family members that collect toothpicks in their travels for me. See the sculpture for yourself at the Tinkering Studio through the end of June. Using oil paints he examines some of life’s most mundane moments as if through a magnifying glass.

Via his website: Influenced by the works of Andrew Wyeth, his early paintings consisted mostly of landscapes. After seeing the work of Richard Estes at a show in Boston, MA, Photorealism became his passion. Today his interests are somewhat varied though his main focus is on the “extraordinarily-ordinary”. Mills has numerous paintings scanned at a pretty high resolution that you can check out here. Lulu Guinness designs a human-sized pinscreen toy. Hilarity ensues. As part of Clerkenwell Design Week clutch and tote designer Lulu Guinness (first photo) created this enormous pin-screen similar to the popular 80s toy. As an interactive art piece participants are invited to step up to the device and press their bodies into it, creating all manner of hilarious, touching, and inevitably obscene body portraits.
