Aujourd’hui, mes enseignements portent sur les relations transnationales, l’Asie du Sud-est et les théories du développement. Au niveau de la recherche, je m’intéresse à l’interaction entre les acteurs non-étatiques et les processus multilatéraux en Asie, aux différentes formes d’action collective et de résistance en zones rurales, en particulier aux Philippines, et enfin aux enjeux de développement international et de ce que l’on décrit comme l’altermondialisme.

Dans ces recherches, je tente de saisir en quoi les dynamiques transnationales et les activités de groupes sociaux qui agissent au-dessous et au-delà des États contribuent à remettre en question les approches stato-centrées des relations internationales tout autant que les approches fondées sur l’étude des institutions politiques formelles. Leanne Serbulo (TSUSP Alum) and Karen Gibson have been selected for the 2014 Palmer Award, given each year in recognition of the best article published in the Oregon Historical Quarterly during the previous year, for their article, "Black and Blue: Police-Community Relations in Portland’s Albina District, 1964-1985. " The article is available at: Professor Karen Gibson in the news: "How Education Reform Drives Gentrification" (Read the Article) We are deeply saddened by the news that our founding dean and faculty member Dr. Urban Studies doctoral student Donna Sinclair was awarded the 2014 Catherine Prelinger Scholarship of $20,000. Faculty members Karen Gibson, Carl Abbott, Jason Jurjevich and Greg Shrock, presented the North Williams Traffic Operations Safety Project, and discussed the history of Albina with State of the RE:UNION; Portland, OR: A Tale of Two Cities on NPR.

Marion Nestle is Paulette Goddard Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Food Studies, and Public Health (the department she chaired from 1988-2003) and Professor of Sociology at New York University.

About Marion Nestle

Her degrees include a Ph.D. in molecular biology and an M.P.H. in public health nutrition, both from the University of California, Berkeley (continues below). For her c.v., click here. For photos, see below and click on the link to the right. Her first faculty position was in the Department of Biology at Brandeis University. From 1976-86 she was Associate Dean of the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine, where she taught nutrition to medical students, residents, and practicing physicians, and directed a nutrition education center sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
