http://educationaltechnologyguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/springpad-free-notes-and-organizer.html I'm a huge fan of Evernote . I use it to take notes, clip web articles and get organized. I recently found out about Springpad, which is similar to Evernote, but with some differences. Springpad is free, and is available via web app and for iPhone, iPad, and Android.

Using iPad Screencasting for Feedback and Assessment

Screencasting is the process of capturing the screen interactions on your computer - usually along with an audio narrative. It's been a very effective method for creating screen based tutorials on computer for a number of years. With the advent of screencasting apps on the iPad, screencasting has now become a great option for the creation of multimedia student presentations. It can be used for any number of student projects such as illustrating and explaining the solution to a problem in mathematics, creating tutorials for apps, commenting and annotating an essay, document or article, and more. http://ipadeducators.ning.com/profiles/blogs/screencast-assess

30 Recommended Apps For Online Students - Edudemic

http://edudemic.com/2012/11/30-recommended-apps-for-online-students/ It just plain makes sense that students who dig incorporating technology into their academic pursuits would likely make mobile computing via tablets and smartphones an integral life component. Taking advantage of everything these applications have to offer streamlines the largely autonomous process behind enrolling in an online course. Some, of course, prove a little more useful than others, but the following offer a nice enough start! Source : Online College Courses Dropbox : With one Dropbox account, students enjoy access to their files while on the go, so they never accidentally miss a deadline again … because of computer issues, anyway. Bento : Available on iDevices (because of course), Bento makes organizing solo and group projects much, much easier by providing users with their own personal databases for storing contacts, drawing up calendars, and taking notes.

Accessing Inappropriate Content on an iPad

I recently received an email from a school administrator that is eager to bring iPads into his school but is also extremely concerned that it could grant students easy access to inappropriate material. It all depends on what you want to secure and how secure you need it to be. 1. You don't give iPads any access to your internal network. They get internet access only. 2. http://ipadeducators.ning.com/profiles/blogs/accessing-inappropriate-content-on-an-ipad
I am conducting a series of workshops in Florida and was asked to share a rubric to help teachers evaluate educational apps as part of the workshop. In 2010 Harry Walker developed a rubric , and I used his rubric (with some modifications by Kathy Schrock) as the basis for mine. (Read Harry Walker's paper Evaluating the Effectiveness of Apps for Mobile Devices. ) I kept in mind that some apps are used to practice a discrete skill or present information just one time. http://learninginhand.com/blog/ways-to-evaluate-educational-apps.html

Notetaking apps are a great way to get organized and keep track of everything electronically. There are a lot of different ones out there, so I thought I would go through some of the more popular ones and list some of the features they have. Click on the links for more information on each one also.

Notetaking Apps - a comparison of some popular ones

I was asked yesterday what I considered to be the four components of effective digital learning. (Why four? The person who asked me wanted four, there may be more but this is the parameters I was given.) The question intrigued me.

Collaborative Whiteboard Apps for the Classroom

Interactive and collaborative - Whiteboards are a great way for teachers to explain concepts to their students. With the ability of some iPad apps to record, you ensure that students who did not develop understanding of the concept the first time have the opportunity to watch and listen again and again. Working in small groups or brainstorming as a class, collaborative whiteboards are a great way to share ideas. Work in the same room, on the same network or even from different parts of the country. No matter what you are working on these interactive whiteboards are a great way to document or record your thinking process. How Students Benefit From Using Social Media 14.60K Views 0 Likes A lot of criticism has been leveled at social media and the effect it has on the way students process and retain information, as well as how distracting it can be. However, social media offers plenty of opportunities for learning and interactivity, and if you take a moment to think about it, it's not too hard to see how students benefit from using social media.
