- 10 Great, Free Apps for Students for Notetaking and Class Planning

1. Evernote and EverStudent My favorite is Evernote . I use it for everything, literally, and many of my students use it for taking notes, clipping web pages, creating to do lists, and more. There is also a new Android app available, called EverStudent , that integrates with Evernote and acts as a planner for students. http://techlearning.com/Default.aspx?tabid=67&EntryId=3858
http://educationaltechnologyguy.blogspot.com/2011/02/springpad-free-notes-and-organizer.html I'm a huge fan of Evernote . I use it to take notes, clip web articles and get organized. I recently found out about Springpad, which is similar to Evernote, but with some differences. Springpad is free, and is available via web app and for iPhone, iPad, and Android.

Accessing Inappropriate Content on an iPad - iPads in Education

I recently received an email from a school administrator that is eager to bring iPads into his school but is also extremely concerned that it could grant students easy access to inappropriate material. 3. You obviously provide web access but it should run through a web filter that can moderate access and report on any individual's web usage. The key word there is "allowed". Your school should be able to demonstrate that it took reasonable measures to minimize access to inappropriate content. iPads accessing the internet with a wireless connection are no different than any other computer on campus with web access. The only difference is that you can't have someone sitting there monitoring everyone's computer screen - which would not be a very productive approach in the first place. http://ipadeducators.ning.com/profiles/blogs/accessing-inappropriate-content-on-an-ipad
I am conducting a series of workshops in Florida and was asked to share a rubric to help teachers evaluate educational apps as part of the workshop. In 2010 Harry Walker developed a rubric , and I used his rubric (with some modifications by Kathy Schrock) as the basis for mine. I kept in mind that some apps are used to practice a discrete skill or present information just one time. Others are creative apps that a learner may use again and again, so it's a challenge to craft a rubric that can be used for a wide span of purposes. http://learninginhand.com/blog/ways-to-evaluate-educational-apps.html

There are several options to choose when trying to create an activity. Try to combine apps together to create a piece to be shown to a class. Some apps are better creating learning objects and some are better for displaying materials. I like some of the projection apps that are being created. http://teachwithyouripad.wikispaces.com/IPAD+Activities+Examples

http://educationaltechnologyguy.blogspot.com/2011/12/notetaking-apps-comparison-of-some.html Notetaking apps are a great way to get organized and keep track of everything electronically. There are a lot of different ones out there, so I thought I would go through some of the more popular ones and list some of the features they have. Click on the links for more information on each one also.

Notetaking Apps - a comparison of some popular ones

I was asked yesterday what I considered to be the four components of effective digital learning. (Why four? The person who asked me wanted four, there may be more but this is the parameters I was given.) The underlying assumptions are core values and processes that enable Digital learning to flourish.

Collaborative Whiteboard Apps for the Classroom

Interactive and collaborative - Whiteboards are a great way for teachers to explain concepts to their students. With the ability of some iPad apps to record, you ensure that students who did not develop understanding of the concept the first time have the opportunity to watch and listen again and again. Working in small groups or brainstorming as a class, collaborative whiteboards are a great way to share ideas. Work in the same room, on the same network or even from different parts of the country. No matter what you are working on these interactive whiteboards are a great way to document or record your thinking process. Educreations: FREE
You’ve heard of the iPad and seen it in action… but what purpose would it serve in the classroom? You might be surprised. While there are plenty of education-oriented apps in the Apple App Store right now, most are a bit too expensive to deploy on a large-scale level such as multiple classrooms. For example, at $9.99, most popular iPad apps would cost about $300 per app for a classroom of 30 students.
