She is 20 feet long and weighs 7,000 pounds. At only 4 years old, she was torn away from her family and ocean home during the largest capture of wild orcas in history. Eighty orcas were corralled into sea pens, and seven were kidnapped from their ocean home and sold to marine parks as mere commodities. Today she is the remaining survivor of the Puget Sound round-ups. As the pod of more than 100 whales moved through the inlet, legendary orca trainer Ted Griffin and his capture team quickly gave chase. Speedboats roared out to greet the pod. An assault of explosives quickly ensued. Deafening bombs exploded around the family as boats and small aircraft attempted to herd the disoriented whales into Puget Sound's Penn Cove inlet. Attempting to protect their young, mature whales instinctively split into two groups and sent decoys to distract hunters from the infants and adolescents. Véritable plaidoyer contre la captivité des orques, Blackfish se concentre sur l’histoire de Tilikum, un orque kidnappé à son clan d’orques vivant libres en 1983 alors qu’il n’était qu’un bébé et retrace sa vie d’emprisonnement, de souffrance, les attaques qu’il subit pendant des mois de la part des orques femelles avec lesquelles il est contraint de cohabiter dans un bassin, son isolement ensuite, qui aboutit aux dramatiques évènements où Tilikum va tuer, par trois fois.
