EXPOSED! Marineland Canada, a Living Nightmare for Whales and Dolphins

While SeaWorld seems to be getting all the attention, it is hardly the only marine park in North America that keep whales and orcas in captivity. Marineland Canada is one of the top tourist attractions in Niagara Falls, Ontario, and has been in business for over 50 years. Despite its assertions that the animals in their care receive the very best available to them, Marineland has quite the controversial history. SeaWorld once took Marineland to court to get one of the orcas they had lent out for breeding back due to the deterioration of the orca’s health while at the Canadian marine park.

However, Marineland remains a popular tourist attraction. 1. Like SeaWorld, Marineland was on the forefront of the wild-caught cetacean movement. Marineland Canada 2. Marineland is home to “Friendship Cove,” the world’s largest habitat for viewing whales above and below ground. NiagaraFallsReview 3. New twists in battle over Lolita give activists new hope. CORAL GABLES, Fla. -- There are new developments in the decades-long battle over whether Lolita the killer whale, still at Miami Seaquarium, will be returned to her home waters near Seattle.

New twists in battle over Lolita give activists new hope

Activists believe, while still a long shot, these developments present the best chance in 40 years to achieve their goal. Among the developments, Lolita will likely get protections under the Endangered Species Act; a new company with less reliance on Orca shows will complete its purchase of Seaquarium in mid-May; and celebrities are speaking out about Lolita's plight including Seattle natives Ann and Nancy Wilson of Heart. The Art Hertz Interview Miami Seaquarium owner Art Hertz is breaking his silence. In a rare interview, he says he's misunderstood and mischaracterized by critics, "because they have their minds made up, by people who are influencing them with, again, mischaracterizations of what I'm trying to do and what they think I'm trying to do.

Welcome to Orca Network - Retirement

All lines of inquiry indicate that moving Lolita from Miami to her home in the Pacific NW would provide for her best welfare. The underlying assumption, evident throughout this draft proposal and the entire Lolita Retirement Plan, is that the owners of the Miami Seaquarium are responsible for Lolita's welfare, and that by contributing to her retirement planning they will honor her service and demonstrate their affection for her. The sustained and willing assistance from trainers, veterinary staff and park management will be essential to ensure Lolita's transport and transition back to her native waters are accomplished as smoothly as possible. She is 20 feet long and weighs 7,000 pounds. At only 4 years old, she was torn away from her family and ocean home during the largest capture of wild orcas in history. Eighty orcas were corralled into sea pens, and seven were kidnapped from their ocean home and sold to marine parks as mere commodities. For only $6,000, Lolita was sold to the Miami Seaquarium to be confined for human “entertainment.” Laurence W sur Twitter : "@USDA_APHIS #MiamiSeaquarium have kept Lolita imprisoned in an illegally small tank 4 44yrs! #Blackfish #FreeLolita. Today she is the remaining survivor of the Puget Sound round-ups. As the pod of more than 100 whales moved through the inlet, legendary orca trainer Ted Griffin and his capture team quickly gave chase. Speedboats roared out to greet the pod. An assault of explosives quickly ensued. Deafening bombs exploded around the family as boats and small aircraft attempted to herd the disoriented whales into Puget Sound's Penn Cove inlet. Attempting to protect their young, mature whales instinctively split into two groups and sent decoys to distract hunters from the infants and adolescents. "The sounds they made were we what we really noticed. "There was a group of people that even contemplated going out in small boats in the dark and try and cut the nets and set the orcas free but they were being guarded all day and all night by people on the boats with rifles. "It was terrible. Laurence W sur Twitter : "@NOAA #MiamiSeaquarium have kept Lolita imprisoned in an illegally small tank 4 44yrs! #Blackfish #FreeLolita.

Shamu Show, le cirque romain !
