Aaron's A to Z Recipe Garden of Recipes of Easy Recipes. Hot Chocolate Spoons. This is a fun and simple classic treat for just about anyone on your list. You could make a big batch of these and individually wrap them and leave them in the office work room. They are delicious, easy to make and simple for friends to use. All you need are wooden spoons (we used ones from Birchware), a few different chocolates, candies and marshmallows. First you need to melt your chocolate. You can do this on the stove top or microwave.
If you are doing it in the microwave I recommend adding 1-2 tablespoons of oil to the chocolate, melt it on high for 30 seconds, stir, repeat until it's all melted. I made chocolate with marshmallows, double chocolate (chocolate dipped with white chocolate drizzled over the top), chocolate mint that was topped with chopped Ande's mints, and chocolate peanut butter (chocolate dipped with melted peanut butter drizzled over the top). I mentioned making a raspberry lemonade slushy after the post sharing the newly organized tutorial buttons and tabs, here. I was tired. I needed a little pick-me-up. And I guess many of you wanted to share that same refreshing treat with me. (Wish you could come over…) I love seeing these two fruits together. The colors are so vibrant and so rich. Yesterday when I shared my 2012 foodie goals with you, the one at the top of my list was getting more fresh fruit and leafy greens into my diet.
I promised you a killer green smoothie recipe, and here it is! Given my aversion to vegetables, I had been giving the skeptical side-eye to green smoothies for the better part of a year before I finally caved in and tried one. I love smoothies and I love fruit, and (shockingly) I even like spinach (although it has to be raw, like in a salad – I hate it cooked), but I just never thought I would like it. When I took my first sips, there was definite shock and awe – not only did I not gag, but I actually really, really liked it. Such a bright, fresh flavor and if you do happen to be spinach-averse the good news is that you absolutely cannot taste it at all. Seriously! Last year my mom and sister each did a pretty intense cleanse and my mom put together a binder of smoothie recipes that were in line with the cleanse guidelines. Sunrise Smoothies for Breakfast with DHA Omega-3. During the school week, breakfast is a meal that is often rushed and sometimes even overlooked.
I have to find ways to provide a nutritious meal without my son missing the bus, even if that means forgoing a sit down meal. Instead of begging my child to chug a glass a milk and scoot out the door, I’ve created a smoothie recipe that packs a lot of flavor and nutrients, including DHA a nutrient that belongs to a category of healthy fatty acids known as Omega-3′s. DHA helps support the brain, heart and eyes and is found in Horizon Organic Whole Milk plus DHA Omega-3. Which is why I’ve been using this particular milk in my son’s Sunrise Breakfast Smoothie. Why choose DHA enhanced Horizon Organic Milk? While all Omega-3’s are important, research tells us that DHA may offer the greatest number of distinct health benefits. It has been widely studied for its impact on brain and visual functioning and its role in supporting heart health. Have you ever gone to a spa that serves cucumber water? I hate plain water but I love the cucumber water you get from spas. I try not to drink pop or juice but since I hate water, sometimes I end up drinking nothing for a day or more. When I do drink water I flavor it with those little Propel packets. Source: A Live Love Pasta original. Frozen Hot Chocolate. I know hot chocolate is a staple around Christmas, but…I’m just not that big a fan of hot beverages. I feel like liquids should always be refreshing and thirst-quenching, but hot drinks just aren’t like that (incidentally, I also don’t like soup).
Every time I drink hot cider or cocoa or tea, my mouth ends up feeling like a gumball that’s been left out in the sun for a couple hours. Don’t get me wrong, I think the drinks are super delicious, but there’s nothing worse than sticky dry mouth. So, you can imagine my excitement when I discovered frozen versions of popular hot drinks. My first sip of frozen hot chocolate was life changing; the second sip was earth shattering; the third sip was more of a gulp, and after that I was hooked for life. It’s like a chocolate smoothie! Rich and chocolate-y, but not as thick as a milkshake, and so cold and refreshing that the sweetness isn’t cloying. Frozen Hot Chocolate (Slightly adapted from Live Love Pasta’s recipe) Strawberry-Watermelon Slushie {and Ice Pops!} It wasn’t long ago that I was saying boo to summer weather and trading my oven-free dinners and ice cream posts for fresh baked cinnamon rolls.
And while it’s still nice and mild here (hallelujah!) The sun has certainly been shining and I’ve finally been feeling the season. I know it’s already scorching hot where a lot of you are, so I bet you’ll especially appreciate this yummy slushie drink. And do you want to know a secret about me? Strawberry-Watermelon SlushieRecipe from Taste of Home Yield: 5-7 cups AND- the best thing? Feeling like a drink now? Blueberry Pomegranate Smoothie. I figured since it’s Friday, we’d actually get something to EAT today! (Or drink rather, but you get the idea. It goes in your mouth, not on your head or face And a smoothie sounded rather spa-ish, wouldn’t you agree? When I asked you to tell me your favorite flavor/scent from Southern Alchemy the blackberry pomegranate came up over and over again. So I thought this smoothie would be perfect since you could easily substitute blackberries for the blueberries.
Now I’m about to say something that could possibly have me stoned by snooty foodies across the blogoshpehere, I don’t really enjoy drinking pomegranate juice. I want to like it because it is SO good for you (more on that in a minute) but I just don’t. POM Wonderful Juice: POM Wonderful is well known for its anti-oxidant power. Blueberries: Blueberries are another antioxidant super power. Here’s some great blueberry facts. So that’s why this smoothie isn’t just delicious, it’s doing GREAT things for your body! Fresh-Squeezed Lemonade. Some of you may know that my father-in-law owns a bagel deli in Seattle. With that information, some of you who know Sara from her formative years may be reading this and are just figuring out who I am (not a “who I am” in an “Oh, I’m soooo famous” sense but “who I am” like, “ Ohhhh , Kate’s married to Seth’s brother.”)
Anyway. One of my favorite things about The Bagel Deli is the fresh-squeezed lemonade. I worked there the summer after my husband and I got married and I can attest to its fresh- sqeezedness because I made those lemonades myself! I got so addicted (and spoiled) to fresh- squeezed lemonade that summer that I became something of a lemonade snob. One other thing–the mint isn’t necessary, and it can be expensive if you don’t have your own herb garden (and I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t; unlike Sara, who apparently is bad at nothing, I kill plants just by thinking about them.)

So after all my whining in Monday’s post, I decided I needed to suck it up and find a way to enjoy what’s left of my summer.
When we bought our house last winter, one of our very, very favorite things about it is that it has a big, long, shaded porch that goes all the way across the front of the house. The house came with a porch swing and then a few weeks ago, we added some white wicker furniture. This week, my kids and I have spent a lot of time on the porch watching the thunderstorms and playing with toys while enjoying the cross breeze (albeit a hot and humid cross breeze) and it’s been nice. These were super easy and pretty darn inexpensive. Then all you do is finely chop the mint… Lime-Mint Spritzers. Sweet Fruit Salsa with Cinnamon Chips. This is a sweet fruit salsa to eat with those Cinnamon Chips. This is such a great family snack, a light dessert, or an awesome appetizer to take to a gathering. It would even be great on a brunch buffet.

Drink Recipe: Asian Pear Sparkler. What really takes the drink to the next level is the infusion of rosemary, ginger, and nutmeg. After the initial sweetness of the soda, traces of these herbs and spices linger on the tongue and throat – not so much as distinct seasonings but just a mellow warmth. I think it would make a lovely, non-alcoholic option for a cocktail party.
