The four-level building is embedded as an outcrop into a steep hillside at the edge of the central quad, overlooking the Holyoke Range. The form of the building responds to the College’s desire to promote integration between the science departments and foster interdisciplinary collaboration. In turn, the landscape concept provides a strong connection between the upper and lower campus, drawing from the region’s diverse ecology of wet meadows and forests.
