Missing pencils, broken pencils, pencil shavings all over the floor, sharpeners that don't work... we've all been there. To cut down on all this nonsense, I have a pencil policy in my classroom.... enforced by the Pencil Police. The PEPO, if you will, with a long E and a long O. The PEPO are invisible, and in fact do not exist.

But I reference them often: "Pick up that pencil! The pencil police will come! " And the kids believe me, I think. The pencil policy rules are simple:{one} Make sure you have a sharpened pencil first thing in the morning. {two} You must exchange a pencil to get a new pencil. The only exception is rule one, because we all know that the Pencil Prowlers come in at night and take pencils, which is why no one ever has one in the morning.

{four} You are only allowed ONE pencil at a time. I know you've seen this sharpener, and you might even own it. Every pencil sharpened perfectly on the first try. When the child leaves the room, he moves the magnet to the appropriate spot. Facebook In Your Classroom? About a month ago I got this idea to bring Facebook into my classroom. Is that weird? Actually . . . it's just the idea of Facebook status updates that I wanted to bring in. I would have had this up sooner but the poster maker was out of paper at one point and then I got really busy with grades and all sorts of other deadlines! Anyhow, I decided to create "classbook"! I got so excited about the idea that I launched right into creating a logo for it before I realized that I wouldn't even need a logo for the format of the page I was setting out to create! I know 1st graders are pretty young, and if any of my kids were actually on Facebook I'd probably think it was a bad idea. However, I figured most of my kids would already know what Facebook was through either their parents or older siblings. What I did was create a template that looks like a status update page so that I could make it into poster size for the hallway.

One student's status declared her Kindergarten the best teacher. Daily objectives. Literacy stations are an every changing thing in my classroom. At the beginning of the year I didn't have my students doing stations. This semester I began to explore station choices with my students. They are loving it! They get to choose the station they visit and that might be their favorite part. The students get to go to our classroom library once a week and choose 5 books for their book boxes. Here is a list of my literacy stations: 1. I made a flipchart on my Promethean Board for them to choose a station every morning. The only materials that need individual storage are Working with Words and Gameboards. The white basket holds our lunch packets. You can also see my student's mailboxes.

This is the binder where I have all my guided reading logs. Sub Tub. I get asked all the time, "What do you put in your sub tub? " "How do I even start making one? " I bought a portable file folder tub, hanging folders, and a plastic envelope that zips. I do my lesson plans each Tuesday after school. If I know I'm going to be absent, the sub tub is even easier to use. Still have questions? Misc classroom ideas. Wake up work. Clocks for recess, lunch, etc. Paper Drop System.
