DIY Bike Porter Crate

Launched in 2012, Eleanor’s is named after Alison and her husband’s grandmothers, who shared a name, an enthusiasm for bicycling and fashion sense. Alison spent ten-years in the fashion industry, and was so frustrated that she couldn’t find the right accessories to compliment her vintage Schwinn, that she started Eleanor’s. Here at Design*Sponge, we have a bad habit of buying up vintage crates at flea markets – and in our defense, we do somehow mange to find uses for most of them. But this has to be one of my favorite uses for a vintage crate.

With your style in mind and a little bit of paint you can make something that feels much more like home. I chose a simple geometric design that mimicked pine trees and used gold and white to make it more festive. I found an inexpensive, bristly door mat at a local box store with an unpleasant design that I knew I could cover up. Since my door mat was a dark color I went with a base spray paint color that would easily show on top, metallic gold.

How To: DIY Antiqued Mercury Mirror Glass

I've been eyeing lots of different decor accessories in the style of antique mercury glass as of late — this trend seems to be everywhere and I have to admit I've gotten a little sucked into the idea of a mirrored glass bedside lamp or even a bedside table.
