This 20,000 square foot contemporary house is located in Dhanmondi, one of the most densely populated neighbourhoods in Dhaka city, Bangladesh. Dhaka, having less than five percent green area for a city of more than 400 square miles with a growing population of disparity and persistent difficulties with other utilities, is fast losing its living ambiance. Dhaka is a densely populated city where most of the single storied residential buildings with open green spaces are fast disappearing and multistoried (six storied) apartment buildings are replacing them. Awards: A Lush Living Wall Skirts Aedas' New Composite Building in Hong Kong. Instead of designing a swanky tower in an overcrowded neighborhood in Hong Kong, international architecture firm Aedas opted to create an apartment building that reinterprets Hong-Kong’s traditional architecture. Located in the Mongkok District, which has a population density of 130,000 people per square kilometer, the new tower features a lush living wall that enhances quality of life in the neighborhood.
The architects decided to add greenery at the pedestrian level with a green wall that will seemingly protrude from the solid façade of the podium and link the building to the historical cityscape. Structures from the post-war years, with illegal balconies and improvised gardens, are reinterpreted in a modern way “using irregular protrusions to create unobstructed views for each apartment.” The building transforms the area and gives it a green urban backdrop, while providing its inhabitants with small, but functional living spaces and great views of the city.
. + Aedas Via Dezeen. Green8 twisted skyscraper by Agnieszka Preibisz and Peter Sandhaus. Architects Agnieszka Preibisz and Peter Sandhaus have unveiled a conceptual skyscraper for Berlin with a twisted figure-of-eight structure that curves around elevated gardens and is held up by cables. Agnieszka Preibisz and Peter Sandhaus, who are both based in Berlin, developed the design to contribute to a new masterplan being put together for the eastern quarter of the city. "The state of society in the twenty-first century requires that we develop new visions for living in densely populated inner cities," Preibisz told Dezeen. "This process inherently triggers an essential confrontation of material and social values, and so there is a nascent yearning for an architecture that offers a high degree of potential for community. " Describing the building as a "vertical garden city", the architects have planned a network of gardens and greenhouses that would slot into the two hollows of the figure-of-eight, intended to serve a growing desire among city dwellers for self-sustaining gardening.

Une tour résidentielle de 46 étages, actuellement en projet au Sri Lanka, se présente comme le plus grand "jardin vertical" au monde. Conçue par la firme d’architectes Milroy Perera Associates, la Tour Clearpoint, qui devrait être terminée à la fin de 2015, vise en effet devenir le plus grand jardin résidentiel vertical et le premier gratte-ciel durable au pays. Les plantes, en plus de leur apport esthétique, agiront comme des "éponges" sonores et thermiques, en plus de purifier l’air et de créer de l’ombre.
Le jardin vertical sera quant à lui arrosé grâce à un système d'irrigation automatisé économisant l'eau. La tour aura également d’autres caractéristiques durables, telles que l'utilisation d'énergie solaire pour l'éclairage de certaines parties du bâtiment (ascenseurs, systèmes de recyclage, etc.).
