There is an enormous amount of great ways to reuse candy tins, whether for practical uses, to save money, in crafts, and even science projects. Once I started collecting ideas, I couldn’t believe what people were suggesting (you can make a pocket flashlight out of an altoid tin!) , and it made me realize how useful items in our homes we habitually toss are really very useful. We both agreed that we also need a spot for things that don't hang, without having two different items for storage. Last week, I got inspired. I realized that using a tray on its side would provide a place for hanging necklaces and bracelets as well as a shelf (or two) for sitting little boxes or tins to hold things that don't hang. Since I happened to have two trays on hand that were just waiting for a purpose in life, I challenged myself to make both pieces using only materials I had in the house.

Marmalade is great because it sucks the peels into the project. But how much marmalade can one really make? (I make about 3 or 4 batches every winter!) Chances are you’ve probably also wondered how to use your peels without composting/pitching them. I put out the word to see how people are using up their peels and received a ton of brilliant ideas. Citrus peels, enough to nearly fill a 2-quart container Filtered water 2 Tbs brown sugar (or 2 Tbs activated yeast) Method Use a plastic bottle (2-quart sized) and pack with citrus peels (lemon, lime, grapefruit, orange, etc.) leaving a 2-inch space to allow for gas expansion and then fill with water.

I am willing spring time to be here soon! There are so many ways you can repurpose glass jars. You may already have some jars you plan to recycle. Or maybe you have some in your pantry or refrigerator that could soon be re-used once it’s empty. The glass jars I repurposed used to contain pasta sauce, salsa, and jam. I decided to decorate them with scrap book paper, ribbon, string and buttons. Here’s how I made my decorative jars: I first picked out my scrap book paper. I then went searching for some embellishments to make the overall design more fun and interesting. I cut each paper into the height I wanted and also made the width sized to fit around the jars. I first applied Mod Podge on the back of the paper and also on the area of the glass jar the paper was going to be placed.
