I know that many bloggers cook, bake, and generally prepare fabulous food and recipes with their blog in mind. Out comes the semi-professional food photography gear, amazing props, flowers, table settings, and hey presto, a few days of intensive preparation and forethought produce stunning pictures to accompany posts that are thoughtfully written, peppered with witticisms and engaging anecdotes that give you a sneak peak into the author’s life, interests, and passion for cooking.

I love those blogs. This is not one of those blogs. This blogger still struggles with being able to time her baking and food preparation to coincide with a photo shoot that can only occur within a small window of opportunity during the course of any given day, weather permitting, so that the combination of camera and lighting won’t destroy what the naked eye can plainly see, and the other senses experience. This blogger doesn’t prepare recipes for the blog. I love financiers. Makes 15 standard financiers. Cherry Chocolate Kisses. I love chocolate. I love cherries. I love chocolate and cherry combinations.

So it’s about time that I shared a chocolate/cherry combination in cookie form that I came across recently. Now, I realize I just posted a cookie recipe the other day. Because life is too short to go without the things in life that make you happy, that’s why. These little cookies are really too simple to mix together-it’s a basic shortbread recipe with a little added boost of chopped maraschino cherries in the batter with some almond extract. ********Just as an FYI, these are a shortbread based cookie. These lightly chocolaty, deliciously chewy, gorgeously red cookies are simply fantastic! In my opinion red velvet isn’t chocolate, if I wanted a chocolate dessert I’d make a chocolate dessert. When I saw this recipe for Twix brownies, I knew I had to give it a try. What I found great about these brownies is that there are very few ingredients and that they look incredibly moist. I am not a big fan of dry brownies and these brownies did come out with a very moist texture. Chopped Twix candy bars are layered right into the batter mixture in the pan. Even if you didn’t want to make the caramel sauce, the brownies would still be delicious even without it.

First snowfall in most of the East Coast last night. While it was devastating to those still without power in NY and NJ. Up here in New Hampshire we got a whopping 2-3 inches. My kids thinks it's the greatest thing ever. They want to go out and make snowman and forts and all that fun snow stuff. Little do they realize when they do it's going to be a brown snowman as their snowballs pick up chunks of dirt, grass, and leaves.

As it is I have already had to lecture them on the importance of not eating snow. To celebrate our first snowfall we had some Christmas in donut form. These donuts are a classic fried cake donut.
