(French For Rabbits - Marauder)Yesterday morning, the sun was shining as Kayley left, so I decided to go on a little adventure of my own. I've lived here for just over a year now, and yet I haven't explored the coast path that starts right near my flat.I started off in a wooly hat, snood and jumper, worried that it would be colder than it looked, but I soon had to strip off into my t-shirt! Absolute bliss. Email ThisBlogThis! Split the lark-- McLaughlin Designs | Create a Fashion Statement {knitting, photography, design} We are fully immersed in the “Do it Yourself Era.” The trend is fueled by nostalgia, this same nostalgia drives us back to fixie bikes, film cameras, and vinyls. My parents generation (the baby boomers) fled their roots to make a new life for themselves. They started businesses, created the current status quo for families (two kids, two cars, mid sized suburban home), and gave their children everything they didn’t have growing up. As a result the current generation of young people (20-30yr olds) and many others are trying to return to their roots and rediscover what makes things have emotional value. We can buy most things we want (made in China) for practically nothing, so we long for something more, something that will have emotional value.

Many find this by making things themselves, or find meaning by buying things with a purpose (TOMS shoes, 31 Bits Jewelry, Crochet Kids). Items whose value is not in what they are, their value is the hope they give someone else. Beads of Cambay Etsy. Rinse. Repeat. Scathingly Brilliant. A Beautiful Mess. I love using cloth napkins to dress up our dinner table, and through the years I've grown even more fond of their sustainability and cost effectiveness. Though, I'm not sure how cost effective it is if you keep buying more and more cloth napkins each year! This holiday season I thought it would be fun to look at how I could dress up the napkins I already own to give them an extra festive vibe. Check out three simple ways you can give new life to your table linens. And hey! Two of them are even no sew! Ribbon Trimmed Napkin This look is so (no sew) simple! I just wanted to make note of some good comics on sale now that I think everyone should hear about. I've mentioned my studiomates before, as well as some of the people working in the studio around the way.

I'll probably mention them all again, too, because I honestly feel privileged to know these guys and see them work. The building my studio is in will, I think, be one of those places you read about twenty years from now as being the center of great things. People will marvel at all the talent assembled and read about the creative energy crackling in the room, the way today we read about the old Marvel Bullpen or the studios of Paris where Pablo met Henri, or maybe the Cedar Tavern where Willem punched Clem.

I really think it's going to be that important to the world of comics. Of course I don't have anything to do with the great things. But these guys, they inspire me, with their talent and their work ethic. So this is where this post comes in.
