Tolkien. In more ways than one, this writer has almost reinvented what it means to set a book in a world of fantasy. That being said, a great book for kids to read that encourages the exploration into the fantasy genre is none other than J.R.R. Tolkien's "The Hobbit" which is rich with vivid detail of the world Tolkien created. Everything from elves and dwarves to orcs and dragons are mentioned and demonstrate the legends behind the characters.

So how does all of this lead to escapism in a book? Having the power to escape into a book is perhaps one of the greatest aspects of loving literature. If a child is troubled, whether due to problems at school or issues at home, often it causes a lot of stress in his or her life. A declaration of members’ interests, of a sort. So, I am going to be talking to you about reading. What is Escapism. So, I want to have my beliefs about escapism put into this torrent of prideful argument.

What is Escapism

I do believe most people who post on these kind of controversial subjects do so just to get a response. That is not the point; the point is escapism. I am an escapist, not a full-on, hardcore, completely checked out one, but that doesn't change the fact that I am one. My first observation is that people want to look at escapism as black and white. Book Review 9 (to 13)/30 – The Tairen Soul Series, C.L. Wilson

In the case of “Lord of the Fading Lands – Book 1 of the Tairen Soul Series by C.L. Wilson – the unexpected source was the Salvation Army store near the Sutherland train station outside of Sydney, Australia. I ended up picking up this book after finishing Stephen Fry’s “Making History” (see my review here) and going on a misdirected search of the religious bookstore (imagine my surprise) next door to the Sally Anne. Despite feeling more than a little overwhelmed and out-of-place in the “Word” book store, I am pleased as punch that my search led my to C.L. Wilson’s series opener and to my subsequent 5 day journey through the world of the Tairen Souls. Okay, okay, I know what you are thinking: “she’s lost her mind! (1) Character Development The book basically revolves around two individuals (note: I will do my best not to include ‘big‘ spoilers in this review) – Ellysetta Baristani and Rain Tairen Soul.

It's an extraordinary phenomenon when you stop to think about it. Every great invention or discovery started with a little imagination, with something thinking "What if...? " It is a crucial part of human intelligence and development, and without it we would almost certainly still be living in caves. Imagination is a vast topic - limitless really, stretching as far as any individual's mind can reach. So, the aspect I want to focus on is the one I feel most passionate about - imagination in the world of art.

I'm particularly passionate about imagination in this sense, as I believe we would not be able to cope with the real world without it. Story-telling is one of my favourite ways to use my imagination, whether it be through the stories found in books, films and TV shows, my own attempts at writing, or simply allowing myself to day-dream. You can see just how dominant EL James is here - which just covers sales of books in the top 100: The data comes care of Nielsen Bookscan, which collects the retail sales information from point of sale systems in more than 31,500 bookshops around the world. The big caveat is that it does not provide collated sales across e-books and physical books so this is just the print version. Fifty Shades' dominance is such that it changes the types of books that feature in the list, with 'romance and sagas' top of the list, followed by childrens' fiction, young adult fiction and crime.
