NETBEHEERDERS PUBLICEREN ENERGIEVERBRUIKSDATA. 06/07/2015 - Vanaf 1 juli 2015 publiceren alle regionale energienetbeheerders via hun eigen website de gemiddelde jaarverbruiksdata van hun klanten. Deze gegevens zijn geanonimiseerd en samengevoegd zodat ze niet naar individuele huishoudens herleidbaar zijn. Marktpartijen en lokale energie-initiatieven kunnen deze informatie combineren met andere data, zoals bijvoorbeeld gegevens van het kadaster, waardoor ze groepen klanten kunnen benaderen met producten en diensten op het gebied van energiebesparing. Het doel hiervan is het verminderen van het energieverbruik in Nederland. Het verstrekken van de verbruiksdata is een van de onderdelen uit het Nationaal Energieakkoord waarin is afgesproken om jaarlijks 1,5% energie te besparen. Energiebesparing én marktkansen In het energieakkoord is voorgesteld om informatie die nuttig is voor de energietransitie vanuit de netbeheerders actief openbaar te maken.

One figure being bandied around was about $80 million per year, but a new report in the Guardian suggests this is a huge over-estimate, and that the true cost will be more like a fifth of that figure.
The same article notes that the government was not the only one making strong open access moves in the UK: Research Councils UK, a coalition of the UK's biggest research funders, released its own updated open access policy, which is even more forthright than the broader government policy in requiring true open access that allows free commercial re-use. These are the costs of illness and environmental damage caused by pollutants from industrial facilities.
The report's key finding is that a tiny number of industrial sites are causing a large proportion of the damage. As such the data from the report describes the 622 facilities that cause three quarters of the total damage costs. But what are the costs? The report finds that air pollution from the 10,000 largest polluting facilities in Europe cost citizens between €102bn and €169bn in 2009. Budget Transparency & Visualization Tool, Look at Cook, Open Sourced. Earlier this year, Cook County released “Look at Cook,” a budget visualization tool to help citizens understand how the county spends taxpayer dollars. As the site says, residents “keep asking, ‘Where exactly does our money go?’” Look at Cook attempts to help answer that question with spending breakdowns by area and year, as well as comparisons between expected and actual budgets.
Today, the team behind Look at Cook — Derek Eder and Nick Rougeux — opensourced the code behind the app, making it freely available to any other jurisdiction interested in deploying it. As Elder explained to Alex Howard on the O’Reilly Radar, “…we decided to use free tools like jQuery for front-end functionality and Google Fusion Tables to house the data.” We’d love to hear if any other cities, states, or counties were interested in using the app, or if they are using other tech for budget transparency. Earlier this year at the TED conference, Pattie Maes from the MIT Media Lab’s Fluid Interfaces Group showcased a wearable computing system that allows users to display and interact with the Web on any surface – including the human body.
